A Message From Mr. Schultz

March 23, 2020

Dear Parents,

Thank you so much for your cooperation in coming to pick up your child’s(ren’s) textbooks today.  During this difficult time with the COVID-19 virus, your patience and understanding are truly valued.  Let me begin by reminding us all that God is in charge.  He promises to make all things work for our good, even when we cannot understand what is really happening.  Please remember that our loving Savior is with us and will protect us.  Romans 8:35 & 37, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?  No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.  May he bring us all closer to him through his precious Word.”

Cancellations and Updates
The Governor has canceled school for the foreseeable future.  There is a lot of speculation on possible return dates, however there is no known return date at this time.  We will keep you posted on what we can do to make sure your children learn what they need to know before the summer recess.  We have canceled the following events: 1) the Science Fair, 2) Robotics VEX IQ Challenge at St. Mark’s, Watertown, 3) the Mother Goose Event, 4) Game Night sponsored by K-2, 5) the Academic Fair, 6) Shoreland Forensics Meet (might do a local one if time permits), 7) the LLAC Softball Tournament.   The school Musical and DC trip are both on hold.  A final decision will be made by April 15.  Please do not make any final payments for the DC trip until we make the final decision.

Online Instruction
The teachers met earlier today (Monday) from 9 AM to 3:30 PM to make plans for delivering on-line instruction.  We promise to do our best to give your children access to videos, google hangout meets, and other resources to help them understand their lessons.  Each teacher will use a method of instruction to help your child learn what our curriculum was set to give them for the 4th quarter of the school year.  The individual teachers will contact you with more information today and tomorrow.  We plan to begin instruction on Wednesday.

Expectations Parents
Your role is very important to ensure continued learning. Designate clear times during every day when your child(ren) should be focused on learning. A daily schedule of academic time can help everyone stay organized and minimize stress. Designate a place in your home for school work. Preferably in a family living area/kitchen (not a bedroom) where there is an opportunity to provide supervision, guidance, and ensure progress on assigned work is being made. If your student is struggling to find or understand materials contact your student’s teacher.  We will be available every day to provide assistance.

Assignments will be sent to the students from their classroom teacher.  Each teacher will ask and expect students to provide evidence of their learning in some form or fashion.  If the teacher is using Google Classroom and the student needs assistance with Google Classroom, contact the classroom teacher first.  Attendance will be taken every school day beginning March 25th between 9 AM and 11 AM.  In order to confirm attendance, a parent must respond to an email sent from the teacher confirming that their child received the assignment, understands the instructions, and has begun working on the school work for that day.  Please be patient as this is a learning process for all involved; we will fine tune this as we go along.

Technology for Upper Grades
Charter Spectrum announced Friday that it will offer FREE access to broadband and WiFi services to households with students who do not already have the service. Call 1-844-488-8395. Xfinity/Comcast has also announced free service. Visit the link to apply or call 1-877-709-9174.

Report Cards
Report cards will be scanned and sent to you sometime Wednesday.  If you would like a paper copy, please plan to pick the report card up when school resumes.

Each teacher will provide you with a link to watch a morning devotion as we begin the day.  One that is very good is  Scroll down to Subscribe to Time of Grace, type in your family information, and select Grace Moments.  We did send home the children’s bibles and hymnals so that your family may use them daily and on Sunday for online worship.

If you find that you may need some counseling, please contact one of the pastors.  Another alternative is Christian Family Solutions (CFS) which is prepared to help those who are experiencing heightened anxiety as a result of the current situation. At this time, CFS has not closed clinics. CFS is also making video counseling an option for those who need it. (

May our loving God watch over all of us and strengthen us through his Word so that we are able to conquer these troubling times.

In Christ,

Stephen L. Schultz
