Graduation Is Coming

Graduations have begun taking place all over the country. Children wearing caps and gowns are graduating from kindergarten, middle schools, high schools, and colleges. As we draw to the close of the 2018-2019 school year, we will see our kindergarten class graduate to first grade and our eighth-grade class to high school. As they move on, we have many memories about their schooling at Bethany, and we wonder how they will do next year and into the future.
One thing we desire more than anything is that these children of God remember what they learned here. Jesus wants them to be faithful to him. He says, “Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.” Here Jesus is warning them that the road to heaven is not easy. Trials, tribulations, and temptations will come their way. Satan is prowling around like a roaring lion constantly looking for ways to deceive them and lead them away from Jesus.
However, Jesus has promised to be with these graduates and us always. He strengthens them through the Means of Grace-that precious message of Jesus suffering, death, and resurrection for the forgiveness of sins. Jesus personally comes to them in Holy Communion. By being in the Word, these graduates will remain strong in the Lord.
Are they ready for high school? We believe they are. All five freshman at SLHS from Bethany were on the honor roll this fall. Altogether, sixteen former Bethany graduates were on the first-semester honor roll. A number of others attending other area high schools were on the honor roll at their respective schools. This year’s graduates have been faithful and will continue to do so in the future. Only God the Holy Spirit working through the Word will keep them faithful to Jesus into eternal life. We pray that they never stray from the Word. God help us as a congregation to encourage these talented, young men and women to stay close to Jesus so that they will receive the crown of life!

Graduation Notes

Bethany will be celebrating both our Kindergarten and 8th grade graduates. Some help is needed for these events. Parents of first graders are asked to help out with the Kindergarten program on Wednesday, May 22. Help is needed to serve cake and ice cream following the program (about 6:30pm). Seventh graders and their parents are asked to help out with the Eighth grade Graduation celebration on Thursday, May 23. Help is needed with serving and clean up, following the closing service. Please speak with Mrs. Hagedorn if you are able to help. Parents of 1st and 7th Graders, see THIS NOTE for important details about the celebrations.
