Reading Is Important

Did you know that this week is national reading week? The focus is encouraging students to read and celebrate the fact that they can learn so many things from reading. However, in the last several years there has been a push to cancel some authors because of how they wrote their books. Some authors are accused of being racist or discriminatory against certain people in our culture. I wonder if anyone ever really sat down with the author to write such a statement.
At Bethany, we want students to embrace reading. It helps them to keep their mind sharp. Reading expands their horizons so that they can understand their world better. Much knowledge is accumulated that helps in science, history, and the language arts. In fact, students that read for 20-30 minutes per day will read 1.8 million words in a school year and will actually average at the 90th percentile on national achievement tests. Readers most often are very successful in college.
But we have another reason to teach reading. When you can comprehend reading stories, you will be able to understand God’s Word better. In that Word, your children will read how Jesus died so that they might live and have life to the full. Knowing that God loves you and promises to watch over you takes away fear and anxiety. When God says that he will work all things for your good, that gives you confidence to face each new day. Reading God’s Word shows you the only way to heaven through Christ.
So why not encourage your child to read. Start today. Find out what topics are most interesting to your child and get books to read for them. Read them together or read them separately, but please encourage them to read.  You will see a child who learns so much, and if you read devotions together, you will have a child who better understands God’s great love for them.

Save the Date! Hero Squad is Coming

Families, our school has teamed up with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Hero Squad starting on March 10, 2021 to teach our students about kindness, bravery and how working together for one common goal will help both children and adults in their fight against cancer.

The money we raise will help blood cancer patients in our community by funding research, providing free information, financial and support services, and advocates for blood cancer patients by seeking access to quality, affordable, coordinated care.  Specifically, LLS is leading a collaboration to launch a global precision medicine clinical trial to fundamentally change how pediatric cancers are treated.

Our school will qualify for school rewards based on the amount we raise.  Our rewards will help with materials and items that will help throughout the school year and students will receive Hero Gear thank-you gifts based on the donations they collect.

Visit, find our school, and join your classroom team to get started raising money online!  In order to help develop goal-setting, self-motivation and organizational skills, your student will earn fun Hero Gear at various fundraising levels.  Join our Squad today and your student will be recognized as an early Hero Squad member and receive limited-edition Hero Gear!

Thank you families for your support of our Hero Squad and be on the lookout for more information soon!  Every hero needs a squad!

Winter Gear

With winter and cold weather present please remember to send hat, ear muffs, scarves, mittens, snow pants, boots, and gloves to school with your child/ren. When it starts to snow please remember that they will also need winter boots and snow pants. We try to get the children outside as much as we possibly can.
