Why did you send your child to Bethany this year? Was it because Bethany has a nice family atmosphere? Did you send them because of the smaller class sizes and more attention they would receive? Was it because you think the teacher does a nice job of presenting clear lessons to your child? Maybe you like the discipline your child receives with the law and Gospel from caring teachers?
I do not know why you sent your child to Bethany? But there is something I want you to remember - God’s word works. Bethany Lutheran unleashes the powerful word of God in devotions, religion classes, and Christian discipline every day. Isaiah wrote about watering hearts with the word, “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it,” (Isaiah 55:11). It is the Good News that Jesus died to pay for our sins, rose so that we might live forever, and ascended to rule over all things for our eternal good that changes hearts forever.
Your teachers at Bethany know that this word works. God promises it. We see evidence of it in action all the time. Why do little children and older ones enjoy going to chapel together, hand in hand? Why do all look forward to reading buddy time? Why do eighty children learn memory work and sing songs of praise to their precious Savior at Christmas time? Is it an accident that children enjoy playing together at recess and listen to the teachers’ directions? Why did so many students faithfully complete their assignments and care how they did academically? God’s word works! The Holy Spirit brought your children to faith through the word at their baptism. The Word works when Christian parents use it with their children in the privacy of their homes. God’s word is at work when believing hearts absorb the pastors’ message on Sunday in church.
I wish I could share all the stories of how God’s word has worked on so many students that I had the privilege to teach over the years. Former students are now grandparents going to the Lutheran school to see their grandson play basketball. Former students are standing in pulpits and classrooms teaching the next generation of believers God’s word. The jobs and positions of leadership that former students have are exceptionally done well because of their love for the Savior. Thank you, parents, for sharing your precious children, Jesus lambs, with us this year. May God bless you all and give you a safe, restful, and refreshing summer! And, stay in touch with Jesus!
Surveys Reunification School Committee
Tuesday, May 12, all school parents were sent a survey to find out information to assist the Reunification School Committee in making plans for the future. Your replies are vital to our decision-making process. Please take the time to return surveys which will come from Grace Works Ministry. The surveys must be completed online by the end of Memorial Day, Monday, May 25. Even though our school letterhead was used because I am the contact person for the survey, please let anyone that asks know that all the members of the four Kenosha churches and the parents of all school children are to complete the survey. Grace Works is giving away five Costco gift certificates worth $100. The names will be randomly drawn from those who complete the survey. Thank you in advance for sharing your cares and concerns about Jesus’ ministry in our midst.
