Change?
Does change always make things become better? Is change something to fear? Imagine, what the world was like in 1921 when Bethany Lutheran Church started its Christian Day School. In 1921, a house cost $7,019, bread was 10 cents a loaf, gas was 11 cents a gallon. Baby Ruth Candy Bars and White Castle Restaurants came into existence. The city of Kenosha had a population of 35,000. The edge of town was 39th Avenue. My, how times have changed. There were no refrigerators, a few cars, no microwave ovens, no radios, no television, no central air conditioning, no computers, and no instant communication.
This next school year, we are making changes in the way our congregation and school are operated. The four Kenosha Lutheran churches are combining to make one larger church, New Life. The two Lutheran schools are combining to make one, Kenosha Lutheran Academy. Things will definitely change come July 1. The younger students of Bethany will continue to attend school in this building, however, there will be new teachers and new classmates. Those in grades 4-8 will attend Kenosha Lutheran Academy at the Upper Campus which was formerly Friedens Lutheran School. They too will have new teachers and new classmates. However, for grades 6-8, the changes will include changing classrooms, having a gymnasium for phy-ed, and a stage for the school musical.
For the long term health of the churches and school, we reached a decision after a whole year of study that combining will strengthen our ministries and give us more opportunities to share the Word of Life. In the midst of these changes, one thing will remain constant, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever,” (Hebrews 13:8). This knowledge makes us confident that our new church and school will be a blessing to many. God’s Word will be preached from the pulpit and taught in the classrooms. Many will be brought to faith and have their faith strengthened through the faithful proclamation of Law and Gospel. God tells us that his Word will endure to the end of time. He tells us that his Word accomplishes the purpose for which he sent it.
So keep this in mind when we ask you to make a commitment for enrollment next August at KLA. This Saturday we are having an open house for all students in grades K4-3. The lower campus, 2100 75th Street (Bethany) will be open for tours and meet and greets with the teachers from 9 AM to 11 AM. The upper campus grades 4-8at 5043 20th Avenue (Friedens) will be open for tours and meets with the teachers from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Please take a half hour or hour out of your time to see the campus and teachers your child will be having next school year. We have put many hours in already making plans for next year and would love to share with you what is in store for 2021-2022, year 1 one KLA.
