The Angles of Success?

The Olympics will be coming next year. Part of the competition is gymnastics. A number of years ago at the 1996 Olympics held in Atlanta,  Kerri Strug competed as a woman gymnast for the United States.  As a little girl, Kerri wanted to go to the Olympics and win the all-around just like Mary Lou Retton.  And at the age of 13, she made the huge decision to move away from home in Arizona to Texas to work hard with the U.S. coach. She improved and made the Olympic team
At the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games, Strug appeared to be on the verge of fulfilling her dream and winning the all-around title. However, before she could enter the all-around competition, she had to participate in the team competition.  Being the best vaulter in the world, the 18-year-old Strug fell on her first attempt and seriously injured her ankle.  In order to qualify for the all-around, she had to complete one more vault attempt.  On her second attempt, she vaulted through the air beautifully and managed to stick a perfect landing. Then, she collapsed in excruciating pain.  As a consequence, she qualified for the all-around, but due to the injury, she could not compete.
Strug looks back on that experience and relishes the fact that even though she could not win the all-around, she did help her team win the United States first ever Olympic team Gold medal. Life she says, has taught her that it’s important to look at situations from many angles.
What about us?  Do we look at all our problems and issues as devastating? Or do we find the good in every situation? Jesus tells us that we must go through many trials and tribulations to enter the kingdom of God. So let’s remember his wonderful promise to us, “We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose,” (Romans 8:28). God is with us every day and is always watching over you and me. Trust that he will bring you good out of every situation. Sometimes you just need to look at the situation from a different angle.
