God's Plan for Us

What was it like in Kenosha 100 years ago? Gasoline was 11 cents a gallon. White Castle Restaurants and Baby Ruth candy bars were born. The population of Kenosha was 35,000 with 39th Avenue at the edge of town.
A new church was organized in May, and it started its own Christian School in August. Bethany Lutheran Church had Christian education in mind 100 years ago when it built its new church and school on the corner of 15th Avenue and 74th Street.  The school opened with 18 students in grades 1-8 who were taught by Pastor Brohm.  From that humble beginning Bethany has grown over the years reaching a church membership over 1300 by 1980. The school reached its peak in 1975 with 135 students.
During the entire time, 13 faithful pastors and over 80 teachers have labored in our midst, training children for living productive lives as citizens in our society and equipping them for works of service. The Gospel of forgiveness through Jesus suffering, death, and resurrection has been faithfully proclaimed. By God’s Grace, over 700 graduates have successfully completed the course of study at Bethany.
Now we are coming to the end of Bethany Lutheran School in name only. In July we will enter our 101st year of existence as the new entity of Kenosha Lutheran Academy. It is good to remember that our loving Lord will bless the sharing of his Word for the salvation of souls. He tells us in Jeremiah 29:11, “I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” God’s Word will endure to the end of time. We can go into the next century of sharing that Word on the south side of Kenosha knowing that God will guide and strengthen our children through it.

Pizza Friday Extended Through May!

Dominos pizza Friday has been extended through May.  Orders are due the WEDNESDAY prior to the week you are ordering for. Due dates for each week can be found on the order form. NO LATE ORDERS WILL BE ACCEPTED. Payment is due with all lunch orders when the order is turned in. Orders received without correct payment will not be processed. May is the last month to order lunch or milk. If you received a lunch credit now is the time to use it.  All unused lunch credits will be donated at the end of the school year to support Bethany's lunch program.

Finally thank you for supporting Bethany's lunch program. Every order ensured that we were able to offer hot lunch and milk to our students. I am very grateful to have been able to serve the lunches this school year. I think that lunch is an important part of the school day and am proud to have been part of that here at Bethany. If you have any questions regarding the lunch program email or contact the school office. Thank you again for supporting the lunch program, Jen Vega

Softball Tournament

Here is the bracket for the softball tournament this weekend. First game is at 8:30 am against St. John Burlington on field 1.

KLA took 2nd Place in the softball tournament this past Saturday.  KLA defeated St. John's, Burlington in the first game 2-1.  In the 2nd game, KLA lost to the WLS's 7th & 8th Grade team 7-3.  This loss put them into the losers bracket.  In their 3rd game they defeated WLS's 5th & 6th Grade team 17-0.  Their 4th game was against Trinity, Caledonia, who they defeated 5-2.  They then played Faith, Antioch and won 11-2.  That victory set up a rematch with WLS's 7th & 8th graders.  After a full day of softball that started cold and windy and ended as a hot and windy day, KLA lost that last game 16-2.

All 9 players were from Bethany and since there were 9 players, there were no subs.  They started play at 8:30 and outside of a few minutes rest between games, they played 6 straight games that finally ended around 3:30.

Congratulations again to the KLA softball team for their second place finish.
