The Light Has Come
In our Advent Series this year, the children are presenting the Christmas service in three parts. The third and final part of our Advent series is next Wednesday, December 16, and will be presented by the children in grades K-2. The theme of the third part is the Light of the World: The Light with Us.” When the time was just right and all things were made ready, God sent his Son to bring light to a sin-darkened world.
At the time, things looked bleak for the Jews. Caesar Agustus, a powerful Roman Empire made decrees in Rome that affected people around the Mediterranean world. The Jews longed to be free and to have a Jewish king rule again. But with the powerful Roman Army monitoring events and carrying out justice in every province, times were dark. In addition, the Romans and Greeks, who spread their ideas and religion before them, had hundreds of gods. The idolatry made the sin-darkened world worse. Our loving God uses all things and turns them for our good. Caesar issued a decree that everyone should return to their ancestral home to be counted for a census. He wanted to collect more taxes to build up his empire. Yet, God used this decree to begin the process of fulfilling the prophecy that Micah made 400 years before. The Savior would be born in Bethlehem.
The time came that the baby was born in the City of David. Jesus, the Christ, came into the world to bring light into our lives. He brings forgiveness, peace, and joy to our hearts. I cannot begin to imagine the immense joy the shepherds must have felt when the angels announced, “Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” The shepherds went to town, worshipped the Savior, told everyone about him his coming, and returned glorifying and praising God. Their lives were changed forever and so are ours. The light of Jesus’ grace gives us the sure hope of heaven. While we are on earth, we know that God loves us and forgives us. But our ultimate joy will reach its fulfillment when we enter the glory of heaven. The Light lives with us! Praise the Lord!

Christmas Service for Advent
During the three weeks of Advent, the children of Bethany Lutheran School are presenting their Christmas services. Last Wednesday, Grades 7-8 presented, “The Light Has Come, The Light Promised.” Tomorrow, December 9, grades 3-6 will be presenting “The Light Has Come: The Light Prophesied.” The final service, December 16, will be done by grades K-2, “The Light Has Come: The Light with Us.” In order to properly prepare for the service, we need to know if your child is not participating. If you decide not to have them participate, please send an email to the teacher or to blsoffice@bethanykenosha.org. Please note there is a limit of 4 people per family for the service. That is the only way we can safely distance ourselves. It may become somewhat crowded, please respect a safe distance from others. Thank you for cooperating with this. We are unable to live stream the service so you can watch at home. But, we will be videotaping the service and making it available online.

Bethany Youth Christmas Service - A Change!
Because of the current health concerns in our community, we will not be having a whole-school Christmas Service on Friday, December 18 (that will be a full day of regular school). Instead, the students have been divided into 3 groups and will each present an Advent Service on a Wednesday in December. The groups and dates will be as follows:
- December 2 @ 3:30 pm - 7th and 8th grade
- December 9 @ 3:30 pm - 3rd - 6th grade
- December 16 @ 3:30 pm - K - 2nd grade
Each Advent Service will be a "mini" Christmas service. At this time, there is no limit on the number of family members per student, but that is subject to change. We will also be recording each service and publishing it on the internet for family and friends to watch afterwards if they are unable to attend.
