Accelerator Program Guidance

Dear Stakeholders,  

If you are interested in participating in the state’s marijuana accelerator program by becoming an Accelerator-Endorsed Licensee or an Accelerator Licensee, please note the following guidance specific to accelerator program operations in Denver. 

Accelerator-Endorsed Licensees 

If you are an Accelerator-Endorsed Licensee, there is no additional endorsement or license that you need to obtain from Denver Excise and Licenses to host an Accelerator Licensee on your premises or at a separate premises.  

Accelerator Licensees 

If you are an Accelerator Licensee planning to share a premises with an Accelerator-Endorsed Licensee or operate at a separate premises pursuant to an agreement with an Accelerator-Endorsed Licensee, you will need to apply for a new corresponding license type in Denver. If you hold a state Accelerator Store License, you will need a Denver retail marijuana store license. If you hold a state Accelerator Cultivator License, you will need a Denver retail marijuana cultivation license. If you hold a state Accelerator Manufacturer License, you will need a Denver retail marijuana products manufacturer license. For more information on how to apply for a Denver marijuana license, visit the Medical and Retail Marijuana Licenses and Permits website

Location Requirements 

All relevant proximity, zoning, and location requirements apply to license applications submitted by Accelerator Licensees planning to operate at a shared or separate premises. Please refer to Section 6-209Section 6-211, and Section 6-212 of the Denver Revised Municipal Code and the Denver Marijuana Facility Location Guide for more information about location requirements for marijuana stores, marijuana cultivation facilities, and marijuana products manufacturers.  

For Accelerator Licensees planning to operate at a shared premises with an Accelerator-Endorsed Licensee and later change location to a separate premises, please take note of the following sections of the Denver Revised Municipal Code governing changes of location: 

6-220(e) - Change of location of marijuana stores. An application to change location of a medical or retail marijuana store license shall not be approved unless: 

  • All other medical or retail marijuana cultivation facility license(s) and medical or retail marijuana store license(s) at the former location likewise apply to change to the same new location; or 
  • All other medical or retail marijuana cultivation facility licenses(s) and medical or retail marijuana store license(s) at the former location are surrendered. 

6-220(f) - Change of location of a marijuana cultivation facility. An application to change location of a medical or retail marijuana cultivation facility license shall not be approved unless: 

  • All other medical or retail marijuana cultivation facility license(s) and medical or retail marijuana store license(s) at the former location likewise apply to change to the same new location; 

  • All other medical or retail marijuana cultivation facility license(s) and medical or retail marijuana store license(s) at the former location are surrendered; or 

  • The application proposes that the medical or retail marijuana cultivation facility license will change to a location where another medical or retail marijuana cultivation facility is licensed.
