Hope your schedule is getting back on track after all the weather event cancellations!

For those of you who signed up for the KIMSeattle (Kids in Medicine and Science) Super Saturday Workshop that was canceled in January - good news! It has been rescheduled for  Saturday, March 18th! The hope is that the 50 who originally signed up and more will be able to travel to Moses Lake on March 18th. PLEASE RSVP to Jeannie Kiehn or by calling 754-2011 ext: 4309 ASAP.  PQA Classes will also be held and they are hoping to hold some of the other originally scheduled workshops that day. Those workshops will also be announced in next week.

There will NOT be a 4-H 101 Part 2 Volunteer Training in Moses Lake on March 18th.

But there WILL be a 4-H 101 Part 2 Volunteer Training held on Saturday, March 11th at the Ritzville WSU Extension Office. Those who haven't RSVP'd yet should let us know as soon as possible.

Fun with Hippology!
Are you interested in learning more about horses?
On March 4th, 2017 4-H members can learn about ‘Hippology’.  Hippology is an activity that can enhance learning for 4-H members by letting them exhibit their knowledge and understanding of equine science and husbandry in a competitive setting.

The term "Hippology" comes from the Greek "hippo", meaning horse, and "ology", meaning "the study of."

This free event will take place at the Grant County Fairgrounds Harwood Pavilion from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.  You do not bring your horse to this event.  Members will begin with judging five classes of horses with the help of a certified judge.  At 11:30 am, you will move to a warmer building for an introduction for parents and new members about the hippology contests.  At noon, a potluck lunch will be served and 4-Hers and parents can browse the equine ID stations, publications for study, and sample tests.  At 1:00 pm, those who participated in the judging practice will receive awards.  Every 4-Her who participates will receive something.  If you are interested in joining or creating a hippology team for State competition, this is a wonderful opportunity for you to learn more about it!
The WA State 4-H Hippology Competition takes place in Monroe, WA on April 2nd. To qualify for the Grant-Adams 4-H hippology team, members will be required to take a hippology quiz at the Grant-Adams Extension office on either March 14th or March 15th.  The team members will be announced on March 17th.  For more information or questions, call Jeannie Kiehn, WSU Grant-Adams Extension (509-754-2011 ext. 4309) or Liz Dickenson, 4-H Equine Resource Volunteer (509-989-4114).

KIMSeattle Heart Module Workshop
Rescheduled for Saturday, March 18th
in Moses Lake

Put on a surgical gown, pull on some gloves, and pick up dissection tools to complete a full pig heart dissection!  During this dynamic two-hour session each participant will pair with a lab partner to complete an 18-step dissection just as a Cardiac Surgeon would do.  Expert instructors with diverse medical backgrounds will provide heart basics, activities and lead the lab - including cutting-edge cardiac device demos.  A strong focus throughout the program is exposure to a breadth of science and medicine-related career options.

Program goals are to: 1) teach the anatomy and physiology of the heart, 2) provide an authentic laboratory experience, and 3) expose students to related careers not typically recognized.  We look forward to meeting you in heart surgery!

This KIMSeattle workshop module is suitable for Ages 8 and up only. Students will learn about the cardiovascular system and also have hands on experience of dissecting a pig heart.

PLEASE RSVP to Jeannie Kiehn or by calling 754-2011 ext: 4309 ASAP.(please give members name, age, and the name of the 4-H club they belong to). More details on exact time and location will be available soon.
