Thank you for attending the Mayor's Town Hall Meetings in July and making your voices heard.  Many of you brought up important ideas and issues that were not on the minds of the Mayor and City Staff.  Your willingness to speak up and raise awareness will help keep Omaha moving forward!  Click here to see the Mayor's presentation.
Walkability Team News

The Walkability Team still needs you!  Last month we featured our Safer Sidwalks Campaign and our quest to have the City create a policy that requires a safe path for sidewalk users during construction projects.

We need you to 1.) Call the Mayor's Hotline (402-444-5555) when you see a closed sidewalk with no accommodation for sidewalk users  2.) Sign our Safer Sidewalks Petition and share it with your friends.
Safer Sidewalks Petition
Pictured:  A sidewalk blocked at a new construction project at 49th and Farnam. There's no detour or accommodation for sidewalk users, which means they will have to walk in this busy street or cross mid-block with limited visibility due to being on a hill and while cars travel at high speeds.
Last Month's Recap
Julie Harris of Bike Walk Nebraska engaged and inspired us at July's Coffee Chat at Hardy Coffee's Highlander Location.  We discussed the economic impact of bike trails, the effect that Nebraska's #50 ranking on bike friendliness had on the Nebraska Department of Transportation, and her work on the State level advocating for Complete Streets and active transportation policy.
The Missing Middle Housing Campaign continues to meet and gather support for their effort to simplify zoning regulations to allow accessory dwelling units, townhomes and multiplexes east of I-680.  This will give Omaha residents the chance to live closer to their daily destinations, increases viability of mass transit & better walkability, and creates more diverse and affordable options for housing in the urban core.
Grace Thomas of The Verdis Group was the featured speaker at July's Member Meeting.  She shared the intriguing and ecouraging results of their Downtown and Midtown Mobility Survey. For more information check out their White Paper:
