Free Webinar: Social Enterprise + Women Empowerment

The British Council and the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs will be launching the India country report of Activist to entrepreneur: The role of social enterprise in supporting women's empowerment on 29 November 2017. Co-authored by JSiE, the report is part of a five-country study on women who lead, work within, and benefit from social enterprises. Research findings will be discussed in an open webinar as part of the launch.

Investing with Purpose: Risk, Return + Impact

Look at an average investment fact-sheet, and you’ll see the usual profit, risk and return profiles. Depending on these, you are supposed to make an informed investment decision. But imagine an additional section that measured impact. ‘How much does this investment affect the lives of the local communities?’, ‘Are wages being paid fairly?’ or ‘What is the company’s carbon footprint?’

This new investing paradigm, called impact investing, is asking some deeper questions about the nature of investing, and about capitalism and philanthropy in the 21st century.

Once you’ve marked at least 90% of the steps of the course as complete and scored an average of 70% across all tests, then you’ll earn your free digital certificate.

Sonipat Social Innovation Challenge

The Sonipat Social Innovation Challenge, held at O.P. Jindal Global University, on November 6th, brought together students from universities and colleges around Sonipat, Haryana to brainstorm creative solutions to local community challenges. Five students from each participating college were invited to come share ideas on challenges such as providing quality education and employment opportunities, and ensuring gender equality and clean water and sanitation for all.

This event launched the International Social Innovation Challenge 2017, the third annual competition of its kind hosted by JSiE.

Have an innovative idea for solving a social problem? Join Social Enterprise: Turning Ideas into Action to refine your model and enter for a chance to win. The top 3 ideas will be selected, recognized and awarded consultancy support from the educators and successful social entrepreneurs.

The deadline for entry is December 1st 2017, 5pm GMT.

What are we looking for?

  • What problem are you solving, and what is your idea for a solution?
  • What is your venture model?
  • What action have you taken to make this idea a reality?

We aren’t expecting fully formed ventures; we are looking for great examples of action taken on your idea.
