Social enterprise is an under-utilized source of funding for gender equality.
Based on our research and discussions with social enterprise and women’s empowerment experts, we have drawn together some recommendations to increase the effectiveness of social enterprise as a model for supporting women’s empowerment. These are grouped into recommendations for funders and investors, social enterprises and intermediaries, and governments. Some of the recommendations apply to one or more group, and all stakeholders need to work together to ensure the successful implementation of these recommendations.
This past summer we participated in research conducted by the ESADE Business School's Institute for Social Innovation and the Robert Bosch Foundation. The main output of the research is the publication Labs for Social Innovation, which provides an overview of the social innovation lab movement and a reference guide of accumulated knowledge on the social innovation landscape.
