Hello <<First Name>>

However tough the past year has been, there’s still enormous confidence in our industry’s enduring resilience. This week we have an opportunity to celebrate that confidence with the opening of the Eden Welcome Centre on the South Coast of New South Wales, a sign of the long-term vision many communities have shown towards cruise tourism.

Eden’s striking new facility is located beside the town’s wharf – itself a recent investment in modern cruise infrastructure – and is home to a visitor information centre that will serve as a gateway to the natural beauty of this region.

The Port Authority of NSW has put considerable investment and energy into fostering cruising in this part of the country, backed by an incredibly passionate local community who have worked hard to attract and develop cruise tourism.

As we strive to achieve a resumption of cruise operations in Australia, the new Eden Welcome Centre will play an important part in restoring confidence and paving the way for recovery.

At the same time, we continue to build foundations for recovery through the creation of education opportunities for our travel agent members. After the success of our newly revived CLIA LIVE program in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, today we begin our first sessions in Sydney where cruise lines will provide updates on all their latest initiatives and concepts for the future.
From Left to Right, David Lyons (Horizons Cruise and Travel), Peter Kollar (CLIA), Marita Nosic (CLIA) and Mandy Patterson (MTA Travel)
Along with the newly announced Masters Program for 2021, these education opportunities will play an important part in ensuring CLIA travel agent members are the most qualified and best specialised agents in our region. A continuing investment in education is just one more sign of the long-term confidence our community shares in the future of cruising.

Stay safe,

Cruise fans in the UK are now counting the days to resumption, with just over three weeks to go before the country’s first cruises set sail under the industry’s extensive new health protocols.

With 100% testing of all passengers and crew – backed by stringent new measures covering almost every aspect of a passenger’s cruise journey – the first ships to sail in British waters since the start of the pandemic will set off from May 20 on a series of domestic itineraries.

The cruise industry’s health measures, together with the UK Government’s provision for a domestic-first revival, have allowed a succession of cruise lines to create new UK programs, including MSC Cruises, Cunard, P&O Cruises, Celebrity Cruises, Fred Olsen Cruise Lines, Royal Caribbean International, Princess Cruises, Virgin Voyages and Disney Cruise Line, among others.

These sailings will provide further examples of the domestic-first resumption CLIA envisages for Australia and New Zealand, and will give cruise lines further opportunity to demonstrate the new global health protocols that underpin cruising’s revival.

CLIA is lobbying hard to ensure Australian and New Zealand governments understand these measures and to push for their implementation as part of a pathway to resumption. To find out more about this process and support our messaging, see the new fact sheet on our Model for Responsible Sailing.

Our Masters Program is back!

CLIA’s elite Masters Program is back - reinvented for the new era and primed to advance your sales and marketing skills to the highest level.

Redesigned in an online format, the Masters Program will give you the insight you need to forge a unique position in a competitive retail landscape. It takes travel agents into an environment beyond mainstream selling, helping them to pursue new revenue streams and create a unique brand differentiation.

Previously conducted at sea in an annual on-board conference, this year’s Masters Program will be structured as a six-week online course, offered twice during the year. Open to CLIA member agents who have achieved Ambassador status, the program will provide an opportunity to attain CLIA Cruise Masters status, the highest qualification for CLIA cruise specialists.

The CLIA Masters Program will begin on June 7 and will be offered again from September 20, 2021. After completing the Masters course and assignment, agents will receive 100 accreditation points and enter the prestigious CLIA Cruise Masters ranks with perks including a higher search ranking on the CLIA Australasia website.

The course cost is AU$350 per attendee. Please note that you may be eligible to claim the course cost as a tax deduction.

Get on board for our Ocean Debut Virtual Showcase

Monday 10 - Friday 14 May 2021

As the industry works to achieve resumption in destinations around the world, cruise lines are preparing to unveil a succession of spectacular new ships that will help re-energize cruising and offer exciting new experiences for guests.

To highlight the wealth of new cruise ships ready to launch and help drive our industry’s recovery, CLIA Australasia is launching its first-ever Ocean Debut Showcase, a week-long virtual event.

Running each weekday between Monday 10 and Friday 14 May 2021, the showcase will provide travel agents with valuable information about the latest ships and all their new features. Each ship will be profiled in detail, covering ship facts; dining, entertainment and accommodation options; public spaces; new innovative features and designs; and what type of experience guests can expect when they step on board.

Participants will earn three CLIA Accreditation points by completing a short post-event quiz for each cruise line presentation they attend live. In addition, there are five fabulous prize packs to be won, simply by collecting the codeword given during each live session.

PLUS – one lucky agent will win a 7 night MSC cruise for two guests in a balcony stateroom, for travel to any destination in 2022, with special thanks to MSC Cruises
To be in the running to win the cruise, please ensure you register for the presentation on MSC Virtuosa and MSC Seashore. You’ll need to tune in live, collect MSC’s codeword and answer every MSC Cruises quiz question correctly at the end of the presentation. Five bonus entries to the draw will be given to those who register and tune in live every day of the showcase between Monday 10th and Friday 14th May – to hear about all 19 featured ships that are scheduled to debut in 2021.
