WELCOME SIGNS OF PROGRESS

Hello <<First Name>>

Tourism Minister Dan Tehan’s comments that Australia’s cruise suspension could be reviewed in coming weeks is a welcome sign of progress after months of discussions between the cruise industry and Australian Government.

Earlier this week Tehan told a tourism industry forum that it would be “wonderful to get more cruise ships operating around Australia” – a sign that the government is now more willing to acknowledge the importance of cruising and its economic impact.

This builds on the success of our Ready, Set, Sail campaign which is highlighting the size and significance of our region’s cruise community to Members of Parliament. So far, almost 40,000 messages have been sent to State and Federal MPs as part of the campaign, and the numbers continue to grow.

Despite this, we still have much to overcome. Our industry needs a clear framework for resumption, not just from the national governments on both sides of the Tasman but also backed by the Australian states.

While international borders remain closed, we need an opportunity to bring ships safely into a local bubble so we can begin domestic operations in this region and help rebuild economic opportunities for communities around our coasts.

We need to maintain the momentum. Please visit www.ReadySetSail.com.au to get involved in Australia, and stay tuned for details on our future campaign in New Zealand.

Stay Safe,

Joel Katz

COVID-19 UPDATE

The United States continues to move closer to a resumption of cruising, with further advances being made in consultation with America’s national health authority, the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC).

In the past week the CDC has issued new guidelines which help facilitate a resumption of cruise operations from US ports. They provide details on requirements including where masks should be worn and take into consideration the levels of vaccination achieved among American passengers.

Several cruise lines have successfully applied to conduct test sailings in the US, while the first cruises carrying customers will begin sailing from the end of this month.

This progress in the US follows other recent successes internationally including the resumption of cruises in the UK, other parts of Europe and in parts of Asia.

Worldwide, more than 400,000 passengers have already set sail in countries where carefully controlled cruise operations have resumed.

CLIA and cruise lines continue to lobby for a pathway towards resumption in Australia and New Zealand, with strict health protocols supporting domestic-only operations while international borders remain closed. You can find out more in CLIA’s infographic, A Model for Responsible Sailing.

MERCY SHIPS
- CLIA'S CHARITY OF CHOICE

If more people like Tresor had access to the medical help they need, people could be given the gift of sight, providing hope for futures of families. Thanks to the compassion and generosity of people like you, Tresor was able to have the quick 20-minute cataract surgery he needed and is now able to see again.

Every gift received before June 30th will have double the impact, thanks to the support of a small group of generous Australian donors.
