The Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce
Your May 2020 Update

Welcome to our May newsletter,

We’ve had another busy month here at the Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, working closely with the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), local authorities and our partners to ensure members across the districts of Halifax, Huddersfield and Wakefield are getting the support they need as restrictions begin to ease and businesses start to get back to work.

West Yorkshire’s £1.8 billion devolution deal consultation was launched this month, which will be an eight-week, public engagement programme led by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority. We’ve also launched our QES survey for Q2, which replaces the BCC’s Business Impact tracker poll that has run for the last 10 weeks. Please ensure you have your say as it helps us to gain insight and shape decisions at a national level.

Please find further updates and information below, including virtual events you can participate in and the latest news from our members.

If you have any queries, including what grants and loans are available for your circumstances, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me or a member of the team on 01484 483 660 or info@mycci.co.uk.

I’ll take this opportunity to wish you all the best for June - please stay safe, and let's continue to pull together and support each other where we can.

Martin Hathaway
Managing Director
Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce

QES: Have your voice heard
and inform the decisions of policy makers

The Quarterly Economic Survey helps us to collate a snapshot of activity, confidence and issues across the business community, which national policy makers use to inform their decisions.

This will be the first QES since the Coronavirus pandemic hit the UK. The BCC's weekly tracker polls have shown a clear decline in business activity but QES Q2 will be the first real comparison.
Business support update:
As businesses begin to return to work, or begin planning for a return to work, it is vital that this is done so in a safe and responsible way. The latest Government guidance can be found here.

Retail update:
From 15 June retailers (including shops selling clothes, shoes, toys, furniture, books, and electronics, plus tailors, auction houses, photography studios, and indoor markets) are being permitted to open their doors. However, these steps will only be taken if the government’s five tests continue to be met and retailers can safely follow the Covid-19 secure guidance

CLBILS:
Changes to the Coronavirus Large Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CLBILS) have now come into effect. The scheme aims to help medium and large sized businesses to access financial support. All the latest information can be found here

Support for the self-employed:
Support is available for the self-employed through the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme, The scheme will allow you to claim a taxable grant of 80% of your average monthly trading profits. Click here for further details.

Don't forget that our team is here to support you through these difficult times, if we can help please get in touch via info@mycci.co.uk
