sorry I did not capture the photo credits.)
A BIG thanks to Rita and her crew
for a wonderful community event.

Enjoy a brief news clip from KEZI about the event too!
Dear Parents,
I am very excited that 4J is implementing a new attendance tracking system for students next year! It will include absences and tardiness.  More info will go out in the fall!
Studies have shown that students with regular attendance and on time arrival have a greater chance of graduating high school.  This includes kindergarten which now teaches the curriculum  that  first grade use to teach. So all grade levels are important! The district will generate letters on a more timely basis as well as having hired more staff to make home visits to  support you and  your child. We will be  using incentives each week for perfect attendance for that week!
Many thanks for your support!
The Family Safety Fair is Saturday, May 21, from 10AM – 2PM at Willamalane Center for Sports and Recreation in Springfield.  This will be the best opportunity all year to learn about injury prevention and keeping your family safe!  PeaceHealth is sponsoring the event, featuring a Car Seat clinic, Bike Helmet fitting/giveaway, distracted driving game, teddy bear first aid clinic, swim safety station, giveaways, door prizes, and more!
YG Volunteers make this a special school and a great community -
come on down to a celebration of YOU!

We want you to join us Wednesday June 1st from 12-12:30 in the Music Room for an ice cream social! Childcare will be provided on the playground!
After chairing the auction for the last 2 years, the spectacular and energetic Wendy Thomas is stepping back next year to cheer her girls' sports endeavors and enjoy a little more springtime.  It's time to think about the future...

Who will be the 2017 YG School
Auction & Dinner Chairperson?

It's a fun and rewarding job that takes a team.  Maybe you would like to tackle the challenge? You can make it your own. Or maybe you want to just be responsible for one aspect of the event -
it could easily be separated into a few key roles:

Auction Chairperson
Venue/Decorations Chair
Communications Chair
Donations Chair
Classroom Baskets Chair
Program Chair
Some important skills to make the job easier -
but you mostly need a great attitude and never-say-die enthusiasm.
  1. Experience in project planning, i.e., being especially attentive to details, keeping deadlines, able to juggle multiple activities and manage teams of volunteers
  2. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, via email too!
  3. Skilled in relationship building and ability to inspire a team
Check in with Diane if you are interested!

Time for Japanese Summer Camp!

Jeanne Mandrapa has partnered with the YG PTO to bring her summer camp to the YG building this year. There will be two weeks of camp -  the last week of July and the first week of August.

Camp is in session from 9am - 3pm, Monday through Friday
Bring a lunch each day (snacks provided)
Before & Aftercare can be provide for an extra fee.

This year's camps will work to incorporate a community cultural elements that will enhance the experience and allow our students to showcase their talents.

  • Week 1: Obon Festival Camp Provides students with Japanese speaking and writing practice as well as dancing skills that will culminate with students attending the local Obon Festival on Saturday, July 30th.
  • Week 2: Nagasaki/Hiroshima Commemorative Camp Provides students with additional Japanese speaking and writing practice as well as singing practice that will culminate with students performing at the Nagasaki/Hiroshima Commemoration on August 6th.

Attendance at the weekend events is expected, times to be determined. Please check in with Jeanne if you have any concerns.  Attendance for is free and both events are held at Alton Baker Park.

Prices have dropped from $185 in previous years and is now $125.  To keep this low price, we need a large number of students to sign up!  We are hoping for 40 students each week for maximum fun. Monica Sensei (Kumiko Sensei's daughter) will be teaching with Jeanne, along with high school volunteers.
