March 23, 2017

Congratulations to this year's YG OBOB Team!

Last weekend they placed 4th out of 57 teams at the District 3 North Regional Battle.

From L to R: Ben Walker, Ruby Their, Camille Brintnall, Phebe Bockoven, and Johanna Bevans.

We are so proud of them!

Many thanks to Lisa Walker too for her work guiding
YG to another outstanding performance.

Earlier this week, Jada Jones and Mizuki Maddock, YG 4th graders, traveled to Salem for a ceremony honoring all the contributors to the 2017-2018 Oregon Blue Book. Jada wrote a winning essay and Mizuki illustrated her story.
They met our Secretary of State, Dennis Richardson and were honored in both the House of Representatives and the Senate chambers. They enjoyed a pizza lunch with middle school winners and then had an Oregon Blue Book signing with Secretary of State, Dennis Richardson, and other contributors. It was a day to remember. Both Jemei and Ashley Sensei's were able to join the girls in celebration.

You can find the Oregon Blue Book online and in libraries soon.
Great Job!

Go Team!

The 4th grade boys basketball team from YG won the basketball championship last weekend. Spectacular effort boys - and great picture in celebration too!

Let's cross our fingers that the Ducks follow their lead!

Saturday, March 25 - Monday, April 3
Enjoy the break - see you on Tuesday, April 4th!

We are all proud of the effort and skills our children show as they learn Japanese. We know the benefits that language learning provides and appreciate the rich cultural education of our immersion program. One of our 2nd grade parents works as a translator (English to Norwegian) and he shared this interesting story from the American Translators Association about the State of Languages in the US.

You can read the full State of Languages in the US report here:
Please donate a few of your student's outgrown sweatpants to YG (drop off in the office).  We keep a selection on-hand for emergency purposes (kids get muddy at the playground, have accidents and the like) and are running low on all sizes, especially ones that fit the older children.

4J Nutrition Services announced YG's finalists for the
Future Chefs Competition:

Congratulations Spencer Davis!

The competition will be held on April 22, 2017 at Sheldon High School. Come out and cheer him on.
Maybe you can be his taste tester!
