YG Volunteers make this a special school and a great community -
come on down to a celebration of YOU!

We want you to join us Wednesday June 1st from 12-12:30 in the Music Room for an ice cream social! Childcare will be provided on the playground!

Friday, June 3rd

Just a reminder that the Science Fair is next Friday! You can review the guidelines here:
YG Science Fair Guidelines.

YG could use the help of a couple of parents to set up tables in the cafeteria at 1:30pm on the day of the science fair.  Kids will set up their displays during the last recess (1:35 or 1:40). Thanks for chipping in!

Seeking New Members

Would you like  to meet monthly with our principal, teachers,  staff  and other involved parents to make decisions which affect our school?  If so, we would like to invite you to apply for Site Council for the 2016-2017 school year. Our parent representatives serve two year terms so you would be serving the 2017-2018 school year as well.
What is Site Council?  "Site-based decision making is a participatory, decentralized form of school governance and organization in which the major decisions are made by those closest to the students and classroom, including building staff (administrators, teachers, and classified), and parents."
Our YG Site Council meets once a month after school from 3:15 - 4:00.  (This year it was the third Thursday). Children of Site Council parents  get complimentary access to HW club during our meeting time.  As mentioned, our parent board members serve a two year term.  Current Site Council parents, Rita Gillihan and Jen Rooseboom will continue to serve in the 2016-2017 school year.  Rob Nance is concluding his two years of service at the end of this school year.  Two seats are available.  No experience necessary.   We  would like to hear from you.   Please nominate yourself. Include a paragraph introducing yourself to the YG community along with your strengths, goals, and what you like about YG, which will be included on the ballot.  This is a great way to ease into leadership at YG.   Email Tom Piowaty of your willingness to serve.

Thank you.
June 9th from 1-3
BUT your child's library books must be
turned in or paid for by Friday, May 27th to attend!

Sign up for Japanese Summer Camp!

Jeanne Mandrapa is partnering with the YG PTO this year to provide two, week-long Japanese summer camps at Yujin Gakuen this summer.
This is a great opportunity for students to brush up on their Japanese while school is out!  The first week-long camp will be during the last week of July and the other week-long camp will be during the first week of August.  There will be 3 teachers and a number of high school volunteers to ensure a great summer camp experience.
By partnering with the PTO and having the camps at the school allows for more students to attend which greatly brings down the cost!  If you are considering a summer camp for your child please consider one or both of these summer camps.  The reduced price is based on a large number of students signing up.
The new price is only $125 per student per week.  A savings of $60 from previous years!  Hours are from 9am-3pm.  Before and after care is available at an additional cost.
Camp registration papers are on the bulletin board right inside the school doors.  If you have any questions you can email

We hope to see you there!

Auction & Dinner Chairperson?

It's a fun and rewarding job that takes a team.  Maybe you would like to tackle the challenge? You can make it your own. Or maybe you want to just be responsible for one aspect of the event -
it could easily be separated into a few key roles

It takes a village -
