Volunteer opportunities for YG Field Day are now open!  Field day will be on Thursday, June 9th from 1:00-2:45 for all K-5th grade students, and we would love your help running the 7 stations set up by the PE teacher, Lisa Chinn, for the kids.  There will also be other stations set up by PTO.  These are in addition to those stations so the kids have even more activities!

Hon Koukan
(book exchange)
Help encourage summer reading by donating books to the Hon Koukan. Students should bring 1-3 of their used books next week: June 5th-9th.  From 8:20-8:30 on those days, they can bring their used books to the tables in the front of YG and they will get a ticket put into a jar with the number of books they brought written on the ticket.

Teachers will pass out the tickets on Monday, June 13th for the students to use at the book exchange, or Hon Koukan. This book exchange will take place throughout the day in the YG breezeway, with classroom rotations. The students will have 1-3 books to read for the summer!

Thank you!

Time for Japanese Summer Camp!

Jeanne Mandrapa has partnered with the YG PTO to bring her summer camp to the YG building this year. There will be two weeks of camp -  the last week of July and the first week of August.

Camp is in session from 9am - 3pm, Monday through Friday
Bring a lunch each day (snacks provided)
Before & Aftercare can be provide for an extra fee.

This year's camps will work to incorporate a community cultural elements that will enhance the experience and allow our students to showcase their talents.

  • Week 1: Obon Festival Camp Provides students with Japanese speaking and writing practice as well as dancing skills that will culminate with students attending the local Obon Festival on Saturday, July 30th.
  • Week 2: Nagasaki/Hiroshima Commemorative Camp Provides students with additional Japanese speaking and writing practice as well as singing practice that will culminate with students performing at the Nagasaki/Hiroshima Commemoration on August 6th.

Attendance at the weekend events is expected, times to be determined. Please check in with Jeanne if you have any concerns.  Attendance for is free and both events are held at Alton Baker Park.

Prices have dropped from $185 in previous years and is now $125.  To keep this low price, we need a large number of students to sign up!  We are hoping for 40 students each week for maximum fun. Monica Sensei (Kumiko Sensei's daughter) will be teaching with Jeanne, along with high school volunteers.

Registration booklets can be found on the wall by the front door of the school. Please contact Jeanne Mandrapa at (541) 342-5990 for more information.
