Meet 4J's new superintendent, Dr. Gustavo Balderas

My greetings to parents and community members. I'm a longtime Oregonian but a newcomer to Eugene—I joined Eugene School District 4J as its superintendent just three months ago, on July 1. I'm delighted to be back in Oregon and part of the wonderful, unique Eugene community.

I have begun my work as 4J's superintendent by doing a lot of listening and learning. My first goals have been to immerse myself in Eugene's unique community and school district; get to know our dedicated team of educators; and understand what our staff, students, parents and community see as the strengths, areas for improvement, and greatest desires for our schools. My many meetings with community leaders, staff, parents and students have been both informative and inspiring.

As we continue into the new school year, I am looking forward to getting to know many others in our community. I will visit every school and department in the coming months to talk with staff, and I invite parents and community members to drop in and talk with me at one of the times below. If you have questions or topics you'd like to discuss with district leadership, or if you just want to say hello, please stop by. I look forward to talking with you.

Would you like to serve on the YG School Site Council?

The YG School Site Council will be meeting on October 20th and 22nd. We will typically meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month. The group works together collaboratively to help facilitate the Yujin Gakuen School program. Meetings are open to anyone. Meeting dates and minutes will be posted on the hallway bulletin board. Elections for parent Site Council reps will be held at the November 12th PTO meeting.
At this time Rita Gillihan and Rob Nance serve as parent representatives on our site council, but we need two additional parents. If you are interested in serving on the site council, please contact Tom, Kocho Sensei, or come to the first meeting.
