WEEKLY DEVOTION

Seismic Charge

Passage

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12

Perspective

In ‘Star Wars II: Attack Of The Clones’, Obi-Wan Kenobi is pursuing Jango Fett’s ship into the Geonosis asteroid belt.  To try and shake him off, Jango Fett jettisons some seismic charges behind him, with the aim of destroying Obi-Wan’s ship.  Upon their initial detonation, seismic charges cause everything to go silent momentarily, as they suck all sound waves towards themselves.  Then after the split-second silence, we hear the colossal explosion and see the huge blue force field slicing through everything in its path.  Everything in a flat plane radiating out from around the core explosion is blown to smithereens.  It’s one of the best sci-fi sequences in cinema.
This is exactly how the word of God works.  In fact when the word of God is brought into any situation, it brings a bright light with it, exposing all falsehood and subterfuge.  God’s word defines all things and sets the moral compass by which all else is evaluated.  We may want our own stance to be right, but if it is not aligned with the Word of God it will eventually wither.  Bring God’s word against falsehood, idolatry and witchcraft, and these things will be mercilessly sliced apart.

Ponder

Where in the bible would you say there are good examples of strong religious, financial or demonic resistance to the truth in God's word?

Pray

Father,
Help me shape my life around your word with a relentless focus. Reveal anything to me in my life that is not aligned with your Word and give me the desire and the courage to address it.
Amen
