Grant for Good Announcement

We're humbled to share that our Grant for Good 2021 recipient is People for Community Recovery (PCR). Through our annual grant program, we've been donating design + branding services to a different nonprofit for an entire year, every year—since 2004. We'll share updates here (and on social media) throughout the year so you can follow along on our journey.

PCR has been on the front lines fighting for Environmental Justice on the far south side of Chicago since 1979. Their dedication to improving the air and water quality in the Riverside and Riverdale communities is awe-inspiring. Our work together will focus on crafting a brand identity and website that elevate their impact and honor their work.

"If we want a safe environment for our children and grandchildren, we must clean up our act, no matter how hard a task it might be."
—Hazel Johnson
Founder of PCR + Mother of Environmental Justice

Hello, Stefani Bachetti!

We’re thrilled to welcome a new member to the Firebelly squad. Stefani joined our cast of characters at the start of the new year, and not a day has gone by without one of her perfectly-timed gifs popping up on Slack. Her sarcastic wit belies a calm and grounding confidence.

We first met her a few years back live sketching at CreativeMornings and she’s been on our radar ever since. You can get a taste of her delightful illustration style in the self portrait above. Before joining Firebelly, she directed The Studio at dscout where she led a team of researchers who explored brand and product questions for high profile global innovation companies.

Lucky for us, the stars aligned and she's quickly started making her mark crafting brand strategies, facilitating workshops and injecting her research expertise. As Senior Director of Strategy, her 20/20 vision of the big picture and keen sense of client and consumer needs has already become indispensable. Beyond her work at the ‘Belly, she contains a multitude of talents and interests, including woodworking and educating. This one’s a keeper!

Demanding Better

Black Telehealth is a revolutionary concept, and a (very) long time coming. It is the first holistic telehealth service that provides Black people in America with a range of premium care options, all provided by Black health care providers. Because for too long, being Black in America has meant settling for substandard healthcare.

We’re partnering up to create a website that introduces their bold vision to the world. Through strategic, intentional messaging and design, we’re helping them connect with potential partners, insurers, community organizations, and ultimately, patients. Keep your eyes peeled, because we’ll be back soon to share the site.

Why Telehealth

Designers to the Front

A few of our designpod™ residents are joining forces (virtually) to wax poetic about all things design. This Friday afternoon, Will Miller, Tom Tian and Dean Sweetnich will discuss everything from process to remote collaboration to metaballs to dog wheelchairs. Wherever their conversation wanders, you'll definitely get to know some of the clever minds behind our work.

Sponsored by AIGA, the event is part of a series from Wignall Museum of Contemporary Art, a teaching museum at California’s Chaffey College. In addition to design talks, they’re hosting Skillshares, Artist Talks, Gallery Tours and Workshops. The series is free, but you do have to sign up through the link below. If you can’t make it on Friday, they’ll post a recording on their website, so don’t fret. Hope to see you there!
