Welcoming 2022

Thanks for joining us through another challenging year—we couldn't do what we do without your support and trust.

Let's keep making magic together in the year ahead!

Glowing Up

Working with Lubeznik Center for the Arts was a bright spot for us in 2020. We collaborated with our Grant for Good recipient throughout the year and couldn't have asked for a better group to have by our side through the rollercoaster ride.

This one is a real overhaul—cue the makeover montage. From the brand strategy to the visual identity and website, we pulled out all the stops. Custom *variable* type? Check. Irresistible illustrations and killer messaging? Check and check.

Not only do we have a new case study to share, we’re proud to share that the project is a 2021 STA100 winner and the typeface is featured on Fonts in Use

Increasing Equity

Karen Laing is a powerhouse. The founder of Birthways, a leading doula service in Chicago, has set her sights much bigger. Her new organization, Okkanti, will be a national digital platform that improves parental and child outcomes, reduces barriers to access, and provides much needed support to doulas themselves.

It’s no small undertaking, and it’s a privilege to play a role in such important work. We’re smack dab in the strategy phase of our collaboration and can't wait to move into visual design. More to come!

Taking Extra Care

Firebelly’s own Will Miller is a man of many talents and passions. Our Director of Design is a type-obsessed, marathon-running sushi fiend—but that’s not all. He’s also creative director at Wild Hearts, a nonprofit founded by his wife, Erin Kowalski.

The organization provides a myriad of services for pets with mobility issues and the people that love them. From financial support to vet services to assistive devices, they’ve sponsored over 300 pets across 5 continents, and provided over $350k of equipment and care over the past 8 years. They recently announced a new brick and mortar space that will enable them to expand their services even further.

Check out their Instagram for some absurdly cute content and visit their website to discover how you can support or volunteer.

Giving + Taking

Finding opportunities to connect with community feels harder and harder these days. AIGA Chicago is here to help. ASK + GIVE is a low-key open-mic forum where designers can exchange feedback, advice and recommendations.

The first event of 2022 is January 12th at Empirical Brewing, and they're going to do a special mock graduation for those who didn't get a ceremony this year. Tickets are only $5 for design professionals and free for emerging designers and students. If you feel comfortable socializing, check it out!
