NCI Designed Ornaments for the Holidays

The design of these charming metal ornaments was inspired by Geoffrey Bishop, Nature's Classroom Institute Director, and Deepa Shreekumar, Children's House Directress, to celebrate the holidays. The ornaments highlight the Montessori principles of a lifetime filled with learning, peace and being a global citizen. Each ornament is reasonably priced at $15/each. Wetlands in a Pan

The students will create model wetlands to examine the effects of flooding, soil erosion, and agricultural run-off. They will discover that wetlands not only absorb excess water, they also absorb and collect some of the pollutants that are in the water.

Make a Terrarium

A terrarium is like an aquarium, but for plants instead of fish. It is housed in just about any glass container and is planted to look like a miniature garden or forest enclosed in its own little world. Create a terrarium mini-garden as a holiday gift or for your student to enjoy!

To Catch a Comet

Rosetta is a spacecraft on a 10 year mission to catch the Jupiter-family comet "67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko" (C-G). It is the first spacecraft to soft-land a robot on a comet! Rosetta is the first spacecraft to accompany a comet as it enters our inner solar system, observing at close range how the comet changes as the Sun’s heat transforms it into luminous apparitions.

Latest Playgrounds Making Play Fun Again

A new generation of playgrounds allows kids to interact with nature, to manipulate objects as they play imaginatively, and even to experience some physical risk. This reflects a cultural shift in North America, in how we approach public space and, incrementally, how we worry about our children.
