Summer Camp at NCI

Nature's Classroom Institute announces our Summer Program at our Elkhorn WI location. Sign your child(ren) up for this unique educational experience. Our all inclusive camp consists of either a 5-day or 7-day program beginning July 20th. Register for one week, two weeks or the whole month!

Tootie Fruity

There are many different types of fruit. Not all of them are pulpy or edible. Fruits generally have common traits. They all have a place where they were joined to the plant, called the calyx. They also have a place where the rest of the flower was attached (such as the petals). They all have seeds, even those types (bananas or seedless grapes) which don’t seem to have them.

Make Seed Paper

When is a recycled product better than the original? When it's paper that turns into flowers. Make artsy paper that has wildflower seeds in it! Use colored markers to paint a design or message on it. Give it to someone special to plant in a pot or in the ground. Keep it wet and warm, and it will "recycle" into something far better than old, used paper.

Less Outdoor Play Causing More Harm Than Good

Playing outdoors is naturally a wonderful sensory experience for children. They need to move and play on a frequent and regular basis in order to reap the sensory advantages of the outdoors. They also need to be surrounded by adults who support not only regular outdoor play, but also encourage healthy risk-taking. The sensory systems of our children depend on it.

NASA's Mercury Probe Ends With A Bang

The planet Mercury earned a new crater when NASA's MESSENGER probe smashed into its scorched surface at the end of April. The intentional crash landing ended an 11-year mission that brought us the most intimate peeks at our solar system’s smallest planet. The impact added a new crater to the planet  that engineers estimate is as wide as 52 feet.

Nature Aficionados Are Happier, Healthier And More Innovative

Natural environments stimulate the brain in ways urban areas cannot, exponentially improving our cognitive abilities and igniting our imaginations. Humans were never meant to be confined by concrete and steel 100% of the time. Within these environments, it’s easy to feel like just another face in the crowd. But when we step into nature, we are reminded all living organisms are connected.

"The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside… I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles." Anne Frank
