Ottmar Edenhofer at ANU, working papers

On 15 June, we will welcome Professor Ottmar Edenhofer for a lecture at Crawford School, on ‘International climate policy to make the Paris Agreement a success’. Professor Edenhofer is Deputy Director at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and Professor of the Economics of Climate Change of the Technical University Berlin. Moreover, he is Director of the Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC). From 2008 to 2015 he served as Co-Chair of WGIII of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Professor Edenhofer will discuss the global carbon budget and two degrees target, the need for negative emissions, the idea of national minimum prices for CO2 emissions combined with international climate finance and a little on game theory.

You can register for the event here.

Last month we hosted Dr Don Russell for a lecture on 'The National Electricity Market 20 years on: struggling with renewables or a national asset?'. A video recording of the talk is available here.

I’d also like to point you to two events being organised by the ANU Climate Change Institute: Eliott Diringer on 'US Climate Policy: What happens when Obama's gone?', 8 June 5.30-6.45pm and Mark Howden on 'Climate adaptation in Australia: successes, failures and some lessons learnt', 14 June 12-1pm.

In our working paper series, Paul Burke’s recent paper 'Undermined by adverse selection: Australia’s Direct Action abatement subsidies' found much interest in the climate policy community, and was extensively reported on in the media. It was also the most downloaded paper in our series during May. Another new paper is by David Stern and Jeremy van Dijk: 'Economic growth and global particulate pollution concentrations'.
