Work must go on! As we continue to navigate through COVID-19 times, we are all learning to embrace virtual meetings, virtual conferences, and finding ways to connect with peers from across the nation. The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) continues to work hard on many levels, including advocacy as well as committee work. Recently, NAHB hosted their winter meetings virtually where several of our North Dakota members along with all the Executive Officers participated in committee meetings, trainings, and a Board of Delegates meeting.
While attending NAHB Board of Delegates meeting, committees made up of Builders and Associates meet to discuss what is happening in the building industry, discuss membership numbers and how to increase them. We discuss issues across the nation, BUILD-PAC fundraising opportunities and fund disbursements to candidates. We can recognize our peers with various National awards for the work they do and most importantly, we have an opportunity to network. If interested in learning more about NAHB meetings and events, please connect with your local association’s Executive Officer or connect with our office.
During these winter meetings, the following accolades were announced:
Congratulations to our newest inductees of NAHB Senior life delegates: John Gunkelman and Don Dabbert! That is 20 years of volunteer work, dedication, and commitment to NAHB meeting attendance.
Congratulations to Kochmann Brothers Homes, Inc, a Fargo based home building company and HBA of Fargo-Moorhead member for being awarded NAHB’s BEAM recipient! This award is Builders Engaging Associate Members (BEAM) is nominated and awarded by Associate members.
Congratulations to Eric Miller, HBA of Fargo-Moorhead member as he was recognized as one of the Associate of the Year nominees during the NAHB Associates Committee Award presentation!
Congratulations to NDAB CEO Kim Schneider for achieving the EOC 50 hours of CE level and for being appointed to hold the position of BUILD-PAC EO Liaison.
March also brings us cross over for the legislature and this means that all bills that passed in one chamber moves over to the other chamber (House to Senate or Senate to House) and are heard in their assigned committees. NDAB Government Affairs committee continues to meet weekly to discuss active bills and daily our tracking sheet is updated. Kim and Sara continue to work hard attending hearings and floor sessions, connecting with Legislators, and collaborating with fellow lobbyists. Should you ever have any questions about what is happening at the Capitol, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Phil Risbrudt, Kim Schneider,
NDAB President NDAB Chief Executive Officer

HBA of F-M content for NDAB Newsletter, submitted 2/15/2021
Giving Hearts Day 2021 was Home Builders Care of F-M Foundation’s first. The $23,000+ generated has restored the charity’s capacity to award scholarships to students pursuing careers in the trades and support local housing projects. That amount has set the bar high for upcoming years. Special thanks to Nancy Kelly, Labor Masters, for spearheading the effort.
Groundbreaking for the Cass County Career Workforce Academy is planned for Spring 2021 (or as soon as the ground allows it). Although HBA of F-M and Home Builders Care Foundation have fulfilled their $1 million-dollar fundraising obligation to the Cass County Career Workforce, our commitment to completing the project has not dwindled. The potential to secure state funding for academies across the state adds even greater confidence that the Academy will become a reality rather than an idea. HBA of F-M is excited to continue working with NDAB and other local associations enlighten the legislators to the need for CTE in North Dakota.
Horace is experiencing dynamic and rapid growth. Meeting with city leaders and neighbors of Horace, attending council meetings and public sessions, and keeping an ear close to the ground enables HBA of F-M to be ready to help all community stakeholders. The city is currently reviewing its ordinances and land use zones.
