W E E K L Y  E M A I L  # 1 7 :
Thanks again for coming to Holy Trinity for the Saturday classes this week. We know that for some of you this location is perfect, and for others not so much. This Saturday (21st) is the last of this term for Saturday pupils and we have just one more Thursday there (23rd June).

We can only reiterate that we have been reassured we will not have to relocate so many times next year however there are unavoidable clashes with long held bookings at Kitson Hall. We appreciate your flexibility and do encourage car sharing or communicating with us if dropping off/picking up timings are an issue.

The theme of our week of fun is Pirouettes + Popcorn and, as some of you may have guessed, we'll be taking inspiration from the silver screen for our activities. Each teacher is choosing a film to base their Modern or Ballet dances on for the end of week show and Miss Lucy has revealed her choice above...

There are so many ways to connect with Matilda - many of the children will have read the timeless book by Roald Dahl, watched the 1996 Disney version or been lucky enough to see the musical that first hit the London stage in 2011. With music by the fantastic Tim Minchin, we are sure our summer school participants will thoroughly enjoy learning dances to these songs with Miss Lucy.
summer showcase : sun 10th july (rehearsals sat 2nd july + sat 9th july)

On Sunday 15th May, Miss Jo, Florence (Grade 5 Modern) and Caroline (Florence's mum) headed to Staines to watch the Southern Heats of the ISTD Janet Cram awards.

This national competition is organised by the ISTD (the examination organisation we are affiliated to for Tap + Modern) with candidates taking part in a heat followed by, if successful, a final in a London theatre.

The content of the competition is a 'class' in which candidates perform a set warm up from their grades, and are then taught two contrasting Modern sequences by a guest teacher. If they are selected to go through to the final, they then also perform a dance choreographed by their own teacher.

We watched the Senior class competition and thoroughly enjoyed the dancers and dances on display. Whilst we did not necessarily agree with the judges decisions (!) it was an entirely inspiring afternoon. It is a very fair competition as an all round dance technique and performance quality is required to learn and execute 'free' work, as opposed to performing a dance that has been choreographed specifically to show the strengths of the dancer and practised repeatedly. The competition is as close to an audition process as possible and an excellent experience for those that take part.

Miss Jo herself competed several times and, having updated her knowledge of the standard from those days many years ago (!), is excited about the prospect of perhaps a future entry from Clifford Studios!
summer term timetable

Thank you to those of you that came back with your preferences. There is no obligation to attend these extra coaching sessions in half term but of course, all practice is helpful! If you have missed any sessions this term then please do make every effort to attend. The price of each session is £7.50 - please bring cash on the day. If you are not taking an exam, you can still attend these sessions as well.

1 - 1.45pm - Grade 1 Modern
1.45 - 2.45pm - Grade 3 Modern
2.45 - 3.45pm - Grade 5 Modern

4.00 - 5.15pm - Primary Modern + Tap
5.15 - 6.00pm - Grade 1 Tap
6.00 - 7.00pm - Grade 2 Modern

This has been posted on the exam page of the website and on the Facebook page. Please note that this is still provisional - awaiting final confirmation from the ISTD - however we don't anticipate any drastic changes.

In class, some pupils have looked confused when we have said that their parents have the music for them to practise to at home. Please make your children aware of this and encourage them to do so. If you would prefer the music in any other format please let Miss Jo know.

We have begun to video certain dances or exercises that pupils find tricky. We will upload them to iCloud, inviting relevant parents to join these folders. We will also post on the parents FB page. These videos are intended as a prompt for pupils when they are practising at home. Thank you!

Gap is looking for new faces from around the world and all you have to do is upload a picture of your child to the website.

The Kingston + Kensington stores are holding a special event on Saturday + Sunday to celebrate the competition. At these stores you can get your child's photograph taken in their special photo booth - you then keep the photo as well as enter.
