Angel of the Amazon, a compelling music drama by Evan Mack, is based on the true story of Sister Dorothy Stang, who devoted her life to protecting the Amazon Rainforest and the Indigenous people who make it their home. In 2005, at the age of 73, Sister Dorothy was martyred at the hands of destroyers of the Rainforest, who felt her passion for the Earth and all of its gifts to be a threat.
An eyewitness later reported that in the midst of this terrifying situation, Sister Dorothy’s final words were "This is my only weapon,” as she opened her bible, and began reading the Beatitudes, "Blessed are the poor, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven."
Her sacrifice launched a global movement to save the rainforest.
