Following several high-profile tailings dam failures within the last few years and the continued incidents of dam failures, the subject remains highly relevant for both the mining and insurance sectors.
Dr. Franco Oboni heads Riskope, an international practice on Risk and Crisis Management based in Vancouver, B.C., Canada, and Lausanne, Switzerland. Riskope deploy their ORE quantitative and convergent risk assessment methodology to support their endeavors. Franco provides risk-informed decision-making consulting, while being a coach as well as the author of over fifty papers and co-author of various books. Among these, ”Tailings Dam Management for the Twenty-First Century” published in 2019 by Springer (https://www.springer.com/gp/book/9783030194468).
Franco's projects span four continents, he regularly gives seminars, and workshops worldwide as clients include the UNDP, Fortune 500, World Bank. Among the corporate clients, several international copper, zinc and aluminum, diamonds and coal mining companies are present.
