“So what’s your program?," a commonly asked question when we present on Stanislaus READS! in the community. Well, here’s the kicker, Stanislaus READS! isn’t a program--it’s a culture change. We believe that from wherever you sit—whether at a business, nonprofit, public agency, school, church, or home—you can embed and invest in a culture of early literacy. There are many points of access and ways to partner with Stanislaus READS!. Want to learn how you can join the movement? Contact us today!
Got Books?
The Stanislaus Health Foundation recently joined the Stanislaus READS! movement and will work to expand Reach Out & Read locally--a program that encourages medical providers to promote early literacy and school readiness in pediatric exam rooms by integrating children's books and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud into well-child visits.  The Foundation is also sponsoring Little Free Libraries at local public health clinics throughout Stanislaus County.

Attendance Matters!
"Life is school and you gotta show up!"
-Kid President
As we look closer at attendance data at our pilots schools, nearly 30% of children in Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten are chronically absent from school. These students miss out on 18 days or more of critical learning time.

Assistant Superintendent of SCOE, Sue Rich, talks more about the preventative measures parents can take to make sure their kids don't Miss School and Miss Out in the September issue of Progress Magazine.

Promote Early Literacy
85% of the brain develops in the first 3 years of life and research shows that reading, talking, and singing regularly with young children from birth stimulates brain development. This stimulation in turn builds language, literacy, and children’s motivation to learn. A young child’s early language experience predicts her early academic skill.
