Dear Community Partner,

Welcome to the first edition of The READ Feed, a monthly update on news and activities of Stanislaus READS! As we move forward with our county-wide effort to help children read—and succeed—by grade three, we will continue to share snippets of our work in the field, best practices from other communities, and ideas for how to get involved in our local movement.
  • We are now integrating the Kindergarten Student Entrance Profile (KSEP) as a universal school readiness tool across all Head Start programs and in the Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten classrooms at five pilot elementary schools. This is the first time our county will have performance level data on students’ social-emotional readiness and school-ready knowledge when they enter kindergarten.
  • To increase children’s access to books, we will expand Dolly Parton’s free book distribution program, The Imagination Library, to the attendance areas of five pilot schools. Thanks to early program funders—Stanislaus Community Foundation, Modesto Rotary, and Morgan Stanley—our Imagination Library Coordinators will begin to sign families up this summer. We need additional financial support to increase the number of children who can participate. Please donate to our local Imagination Library today!
  • To counter summer learning loss or ‘summer slide,’ Stanislaus Community Foundation awarded $5,000 to five pilot schools to design or expand summer enrichment programs at their sites. Although each school will have a unique program, all schools plan to open their school libraries and offer reading incentives this summer. Stay tuned to learn more about the schools’ progress…
Let’s keep up the momentum!
