A very pleasant surprise to us, as we have held no events recently and we haven't advertised at all. But thanks to their links with Knutsford U3A and Sandra Stonehill in particular, then Adrian and Elaine Dean have joined us. If you get talking to them at any of our events (once we are allowed to hold events) then please make them especially welcome as they will have come all the way from Leyland.
Adrian and Elaine have been many times to France and have found some lovely places to stay. Adrian offered me a review of these places and I've put them on our Web Site. To see them go to our Website and select More -> Interesting places to stay or alternatively click here.
If you would like to add your own favourite places then send me a short description and I'll add it in.
France 2021
Thank You Everyone for giving your preference for 2021. Unfortunately if you ask 40 families then you get 40 slightly different replies. Chris is going to propose a couple of dates to the Meung Jumelage. We will update you as soon as we have any news.
Anyone Interested in a meal at a Restaurant?
Lynn has offered to organise a couple of meals for 6 of us in August. As the current rules stand it will have to be outdoors. So she will be looking at pubs like the Little Manor (opposite) that have a large outside area. She would also like to offer an optional walk beforehand for the diners.
Lynn will be emailing everyone when she has looked into this a little more. So please do not reply to this email but wait for Lynn to email everyone.
Afternoon Teas in July
We have had a couple of teas in someones garden in July. Both of them went extremely well.
Patsy organised one for Ann & Ken Saggerson, Beverley Jameson, Malcolm Brentford and Anne Bradbury. This was much enjoyed by everyone and Ann Saggerson wrote afterwards.
We had a very pleasant afternoon in Patsy and David's lovely garden. I think I misunderstood what was going to happen and thought we were going to take our own food etc. As we have been isolating, we went along with some Sextons pastries on paper plates for me and Ken, and a bottle of white wine to share with everybody and our own wine glasses! In the event Patsy (bless her) had gone to a lot of trouble and had provided a fantastic afternoon tea for us all. (I hope we didn't leave them with a lot of food which they are going to be eating for days!) It was lovely to meet up with some friends again and I think that will be what most people would enjoy.
The message is that any events like this need to be simple and fun. We could continue with the afternoon teas but we are hoping that a meal out at a restaurant makes it as easy as possible for everyone. Who knows ... If the guidance changes we may be able to go inside.
Planned Events for the rest of 2020
We are still limited to meeting up as two households inside and 6 people outside. So any activities we can offer are limited by this. The High Legh Teas will not take place this year.
The dates for the AGM and the "Beaujolais Nouveau" have not changed but we will decide nearer the time whether these events can run as planned.
