SHALL WE PLAY A GAME?

Hole in OneEnjoy some backyard fun with friends at the vineyard.  We are set up and ready to provide hours of entertainment with the official Royal Rabbit Bean Bag Toss (adorned with our logo, of course) and Bocce Ball.  Pick out a bottle or two of your favorite Royal Rabbit wine, spread out your picnic and enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the vineyard's backyard instead of your own.

Believe it or not, there are “official rules” to bean bag toss and they’re quite sophisticated, perfect for the wine drinking crowd. So, simply toss the beanbag-thingy into the round hole. No, just kidding. It’s a delicate system of “pitching” your 1 1b. bean bag at the opposite platform from a distance of  27 feet and tally your score as you go.  Sounds easy enough. You can read all the rules here.

The ancient sport of bocce is a game almost anyone can play that combines the best of skee-ball, bowling, and shuffleboard.  It’s pretty simple, too. Grab as few as two and as many as eight people and divide into two teams.  A member of the first team throws out the smallest ball, known as the “jack” (perfect opportunity to insert rabbit into the mix), which acts as a marker.  The same person gets the first chance to throw one of the larger balls as close to the “jack rabbit” as possible.  Now, you simply alternate turns between the two teams until all the larger balls are gone. Whoever lands closest to the “jack rabbit” wins that set, making them the “in” team. Count the score by assigning a point for every ball from the “in” team that’s closer to the “jack rabbit” than the other teams best ball.  Keep it going by establishing a set number of points and continue rounds of play until reached. Learn more about bocce and the basic rules here

So what do you say, shall we play a game?

THE NEW VINES HAVE ALL BEEN PLANTED

New VinesWe have been busy improving the vineyard this spring.  The posts were installed to support all the new vines as we added new variations and replenished the signature grapes of Royal Rabbit.  250 Cabernet Franc and 75 Chardonnay plants have been settled into the soil and are beginning to ground their roots. Some of these will be different clones than our current selections, which will surely make for some exciting wine variations.  We are looking forward to the flavors they will add to our distinct wines a couple years from now.

Would you be interested in taking a tour of our vineyard to learn more about the different grapes? We're thinking of adding guided tours to our offerings at the vineyard and would love to know if we should schedule one. Let us know if that would interest you and we'll let you know when it's on the calendar! Email us HERE

THE 2015 BOTTLING HITS HIGH GEAR

New Cases New Labels

We're feeling accomplished as we have a new wine under cork.  The bottling is all about the process and we do enjoy our processes, reveling in the joy of figuring out what to do better and how to make things more efficient.  This time around we filtered more wine with less pads and hit our all time record of processing everything in 2 1/2 hours with just Roy and Pop!

We bottled three different rosés this year including our traditional Chatelaine’s Blush - a blend of many different grapes making up about 85% red and 15% white, the Cellar Club selection, a Reserve Chatelaine’s Blush, which is a dryer version of the traditional, and a new, single varietal rosé we're calling Courtly Love.

We also bottled the most recent vintage of our popular Jongleurs (vignole blend), the Marquise (viognier), Margravine (gewürztraminer), and Reingraff (reisling). Just a few more to go...

OH, and we have a good problem happening in our back room while we're bottling - we're noticing several of our more popular and unique white and rosé selections are almost gone. FEAR NOT! Royal Rabbit is rising to the challenge!

Also, check out our slick new label - do you like it?
