Confidence and self-esteem: the impact of residential trips

We use the phrase self-esteem to talk about the beliefs one has of oneself: one’s abilities and potential to achieve. Encouraging positive self-image and healthy self-esteem in all the children in our care is one of the most important roles we have to play as educationalists and, getting it right will impact on children’s future success well beyond the adolescent years.

Last Thursday, Year 3 and 4 had a fantastic trip to London consisting of a visit to the Globe Theatre and a number of other tourist attractions.

After a tour of the Globe, complete with interesting information and our very own sneak peek at Macbeth, we made our way to our theatre workshop. There we worked with Jack - a Youth Director for The Globe Theatre.

Just before May half-term, pupils in Years 3 and 4 took part in their first residential trip, hosted by PGL, a leading residential adventure company in the field of outdoor education.

Read an account of the trip and watch a fantastic video showing how pupils embraced a range of tasks designed to push them beyond their comfort zone.

Naomi Thrower, the School’s Yoga Teacher, has written a short update on what the pupils have been learning in their Mini Yoga sessions. Read Naomi’s update and watch a couple of short video clips.

We appreciate that some of you may not have had the opportunity to get to know our lovely Head of Key Stage 2, Jo Fife, so we’ve put together a short video about Jo's previous experience and life in Key Stage 2.
