Farewell Faith
Last month CCLSWA said goodbye to our valued Principal Solicitor Faith Cheok. Faith will be sorely missed.  We thank Faith for her tremendous contribution to CCLSWA and the community and wish her luck on her future ventures. Solicitor Gemma Mitchell has stepped into the role of Principal Solicitor, congratulations Gemma.
National Associtation of Community Legal Centres 2016 Conference

In line with this year’s theme for the conference, Innovation and collaboration for better justice outcomes, CCLSWA’s Principal Solicitor Faith Cheok held a session on Innovation and collaboration: the use of volunteers in social justice, alongside Helen Pearce, the CEO of The Humanitarian Group, and David Kernohan, the CEO of the Mental Health Law Centre (WA). This session investigated techniques that services could employ to efficiently use volunteer resources to deliver better justice outcomes.

Faith spoke about CCLSWA’s experiences using volunteers and the importance of a collaborative relationship. Faith highlighted the importance of communication in effective volunteer relationships and how CCLSWA makes sure this occurs by using techniques such as, giving clear guidelines, working to people’s strengths and interests, holding them accountable and showing appreciation for the work they undertake.
