Changes at the Park

After three years of serving as Executive Director of the Horse Park, Maureen Grippa will be stepping down from the position at the end of 2016. The Board of Directors and everyone at the Park would like to thank Maureen for all the hard work and energy she has brought to the CHP. It is due in large part to her vision, diligence, and business acumen that the Park has expanded the competition calendar, performed facility upgrades, and developed strong relationships in the local community.

Moving forward Park leadership will be split between two positions, Executive Director and Program Director, in order to better leverage and focus our resources. Both positions will report directly to the CHP Board of Directors. We are pleased to announce that Marc Donovan has accepted the position of Program Director. Marc brings a wealth of experience, having served as the Park’s Eventing Director and organizing many Horse Trials including the Carolina International and the War Horse Event Series. In addition, Marc is a renowned International Show Jumping Course Designer. A search for the Executive Director is underway.
Get Involved Campaign Update

At the October WHES we successfully launched our “Get Involved Campaign”, which focuses on the many different ways people can become involved with the CHP. Featuring a multi-pronged campaign with information about donating, volunteering, sponsorships, and sustaining patronage to raise funds for a variety of improvements to the Park and to contribute to the General Fund.

The Get Involved Campaign will launch its next initiative with “Join the Stampede” at the November WHES Championship. “Join the Stampede” will “tag” and interview farms and individuals to learn how they are “getting involved” or how they plan to in the future. Additionally, these video interviews will be posted and shared via social media and promoted by The Pilot.

Look for more information regarding next spring’s “Ride for the Park” initiative to be available shortly.

Succesful October WHES and Oktoberfest Celebration

On October 16th, the October WHES hosted 254 entries in Horse Trial competition at the Green as Grass through Training levels, while Combined Test divisions were held at Green as Grass through Intermediate divisions. On Saturday, competitors were once again given the opportunity to gallop on the steeplechase track, school show jumping and cross country obstacles, as well as practice in the dressage arenas. The October WHES was a fun and educational weekend for competitors, spectators, and volunteers.

Adding excitement to the weekend was Saturday’s Oktoberfest Celebration and Costume Contest. Thank you to Southern Pines Brewing Co., R.A. Jeffreys Distributing, Ashten’s, Chapman’s, Elliot’s, House of Fish, Laurie Rich, Nosh Deli, and Talbert’s for providing some of their signature beers and dishes. Oktoberfest received rave reviews as a fun and entertaining addition to the October WHES!

Flooding in eastern North Carolina and drought in western counties has state agricultural officials concerned about feeding livestock and horses this winter. The N.C.
