Holiday Greetings from the Carolina Horse Park!

We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with friends and family last week and for those in the Sandhills were able to enjoy the beautiful weather! November proved to be another busy month at the CHP as the inaugural War Horse Event Series wrapped up with championship competition and we continued preparing for 2016.

Everyone at the Park would like to wish happy and safe holidays and cheers to the New Year!
Why Donate to the Park

It is that time of year, and we know Santa has been checking his list... finding out who has been naughty or nice! Have you checked everyone off your list this year for Christmas giving?!   We hope CHP was on your mind for end-of-year philanthropic gifts.  Though the Park is so unique in its ability to raise the vast majority of its operating budget, we must rely on our generous supporters to make up that critical difference each year.  Your gift literally means the difference in keeping gas in the tractor and water on in the barn.  To hear more about why you should donate to the Park, check out our brand new Donor Page on the CHP website and watch the video featuring just some of our loyal supporters.

Remember, all gifts are tax deductible and can be given in a variety of ways including stock options, endowments, and tribute gifts, in addition to our Annual Appeal funds and Sustaining Patron gifts.  Go to the Donate Page to learn more about where CHP funds are used and why you need to be a part of CHP's future.  For other inquiries, please don't hesitate to call the CHP office: 910.875.2074
Don't wait - be a part of CHP's growth today!

War Horse Event Series Heralded in First Year

The final competition in the five event War Horse Event Series presented by Adequan and Southern Pines Equine Associates was held at the CHP November 7-8.  In its inaugural year the series hosted a total of 1,310 competitors from 10 states with an average of 215 contesting each competition, and 145 horse and rider combinations qualifying for the championships where 12 champions were crowned.

Established in 2015, the War Horse Event Series was developed to provide horses and riders an exceptional opportunity to learn the sport of eventing in a formal yet unrecognized setting. Held at the Carolina Horse Park this unique series is designed to introduce the sport to young horses and less experienced riders through pre-competition schooling opportunities, exceptional show jumping and cross country course design and the formality of a premier, recognized competition.

"The War Horse offered a series of 5 events, progressing in difficulty and technicality, over proper 'big time' courses and with the same impressive atmosphere that you get at major recognized events,” said competitor Audrey Wiggins. “Whether you’re a professional, amateur or junior rider you can come to the War Horse at CHP and ride with confidence knowing that the staff at CHP and the organizing committee are 100% dedicated to providing the best footing, course design and show experience to ALL competitors.  My horse and I were able to build upon each event gaining in confidence and skill - truly priceless!"

WHES Benefits Special Forces Charitable Trust

Throughout 2015 the WHES raised $5,600 for the Special Forces Charitable Trust, an organization that resonates with many in the Sandhills and their military connections. Southern Pines Equine Associates has enjoyed seeing how their co-sponsorship has benefited the Trust.

“With the new event comes the opportunity to also share goodwill and charity in the community. First and foremost, we are hoping to bring awareness of the challenges our veterans and their families face by partnering with the Special Forces Charitable Trust," said Tom Daniels of Southern Pines Equine Associates.
Updates from the 2016 Cloud Eleven ~ Gavilan North Carolina International

The Organizing Committee of the Cloud Eleven ~ Gavilan North LLC Carolina International, running March 24-27 at the Park, is pleased to announce that the 2016 competition will be held in memory of Karen Stives.

“Karen had a deep impact on the sport of eventing and provided instrumental support to the Carolina International. We look forward to honoring her legacy at the 2016 competition as we once again welcome North America’s top eventing combinations to the Cloud Eleven ~ Gavilan North LLC Carolina International and provide an unparalleled experience for our sponsors, patrons, owners, and spectators,” said Jane Murray who has joined Robert Costello as Co-Chair of the Organizing Committee.

Additionally, in 2016 competitors will tackle international and upper level horse trial cross country courses designed by renowned horseman Ian Stark. The 2016 courses will test the accuracy, scope, and efficiency of the world's best combinations as they gallop over some of the top footing in the United States in preparation for podium finishes at the Rio Olympic Games. In addition to conquering Stark’s tracks, competitors will be looking to earn top prize money as a total of $75,000 will offered, with $35,000 being awarded to the CIC3*.

In 2016, the Carolina International is pleased to partner with EQSportsNet to provide a free Live stream of the 2016 Cloud Eleven ~ Gavilan North LLC Carolina International. The broadcast will include wall-to-wall coverage of all three phases of the CIC3* and the show jumping and cross country phases of the CIC2*.
