Greetings from the Carolina Horse Park!
As summer comes to a close, the Park is busy gearing up for an exciting fall season. In August, the CHP was abuzz with activity as facility improvements were completed and planning for 2016's competitions was in full swing. To kick-off September, we look forward to welcoming competitors, owners, spectators and volunteers out to the Park for the always popular Five Points Horse Trials.
Volunteer of the Quarter: Blaine Rowland
The Park is pleased to announce that Blaine Rowland has been named Volunteer of the Quarter. Highly respected by his fellow volunteers and competitors, Blaine volunteers his time at every CHP event and can often be spotted working as the Crossing Guard at many competitions.  Ashten’s has generously donated a dinner for two to Blaine and his guest as the Award for being the Volunteer of the Quarter.

Congratulations Blaine and thank you for all you do!
Join Us for the Five Points Horse Trials
The Horse Park is pleased to host many of North America’s best eventers for the Five Points Horse Trials this weekend. More than 280 horse and rider combinations will use the weekend to kick-off their fall campaigns as they compete at the Beginner Novice through Advanced levels. On Friday, September 4th, all horses and riders will perform their dressage test, additionally Young, Future, and New Event Horse competition will be held in conjunction with the dressage. On Saturday, Advanced, Intermediate, and Preliminary competitors will head out on the cross country, as Training, Novice, and Beginner Novice combinations will show jump. Competition comes to close on Sunday with the upper levels show jumping, and Beginner Novice, Novice, and Training will complete their weekend going cross country.

Remedy & Serenity Masseuses Will be at Five Points
Mary Alice Farina of Southern Pines' Remedy & Serenity will be at the Park during the Five Points Horse Trials to provide free massages alongside her students.  Let them work out all your kinks and have you ready to compete!

Eventing Legend Ian Stark Visits The Park
On August 12th Olympic Silver medalist Ian Stark made his first visit the Horse Park, spending three days plotting the 2016 Carolina International cross country courses. Stark was joined course builder Tyson Rementer in making plans for the design and flow of 2016’s international and upper level tracks. Over the next six months, Stark will make additionally visits to the Park to continue his design work and planning for the Carolina International.

“I am very excited and honoured to be involved with the Carolina International,” said Stark following his site visit. “It is a fantastic venue with lots of natural features that I look forward to incorporating into the cross country course. Making full use of the terrain, I hope riders will find the new courses both challenging and rewarding. Roll on March!"

Footing Upgrades in Cozy Lathrop Arena and Stadium Jumping Arena
Thanks to the generosity of Matt Faudree the Cozy Lathrop Arena and the Stadium Jumping Arena have had additional sand added to their surfaces, resulting in overall footing improvements. Work on the footing took place throughout August and the arenas are now in prime condition for the Five Points Horse Trials.

Thank you once again to Matt for his assistance in the footing improvement project and we hope everyone enjoys the work that has been done!
Carolina Challenge Prep HDT Promises to be a Fun and Educational Event
The Horse Park is very excited to hold the Carolina Challenge Prep HDT on September 19th which will be a great opportunity for driving competitors to gain valuable practice in all three phases. Feedback will be given to improve marks in the dressage, additionally there is the chance to drive a cones course with the pros and drivers can test their skills in National Championship level obstacles. The Carolina Challenge Prep HDT will be a great preparation in the lead-up to CDEs at Pine Tree and Katydid. 

There will be something for first times to advanced drivers, VSE's to Friesians, and everyone in between.  On site stabling is available with plenty of overhang for carriages and equipment. Learn more about the Carolina Challenge Prep HDT here

War Horse Event Series Continues in October
The War Horse Event Series sponsored by Southern Pines Equine Associates andAdequan will continue with the series' fourth competition in October. In preparation for the next Horse Trials make sure to check your points/standing! Also make sure to donate to the Special Forces Charitable Trust and get your official WHES merchandise.

Driven TREC Obstacle Clinic and "Dirty Harness" Competition at Odyssey Farm
On September 20th, Odyssey Farm in Raeford will be holding an educational and fun-filled day of driving. In the morning there will be a clinic designed to introduce the sport of TREC driving to participants, in addition to the basics of the sport. In the afternoon session, drivers will have the opportunity to test the skills they have learned in a “Dirty Harness” competition.

Running Start Horse Trials a Great Prep for October WHES
Held on September 26th in Vass, North Carolina, the 2015 Running Start Horse Trials will provide a great opportunity for horse and rider combinations to prepare for the October WHES Horse Trials in an informal environment. Competition will be run at the Green as Grass through Training levels on a day that is expected to be fun for all.
