US Figure Skating will host a S.T.A.R.S combine at the Indian Hill Winter Club on Saturday, June 20th. This event is open to all skaters, not just members of the Winter Club.

S.T.A.R.S. is a new system of off-ice fitness assessment and development designed to support U.S. Figure Skating's existing testing and competition progressions. Become a better athlete as you become a better skater--participate in S.T.A.R.S. ...(Standardized Testing of Athleticism to Recognize Skaters)!

Online registration opens March 2nd at www.STARScombine.org. The cost is $49 per skater and this includes the assessment and a t-shirt. Participants will be there for about 2 hours. Skaters must be at least 6 years old and passed the Pre-Preliminary MIF test.

New skating book

Tracy O'Neill is a writer living in Brooklyn, New York.  She is a former figure skater who has written: The Hopeful, available through amazon June 16th.

The Hopeful tells the story of a figure skating prodigy, sixteen-year old Alivopro Doyle who is one of a few "hopefuls" racing against nature's clock to try and jump and spin their way into the Olympics. But when a disastrous fall fractures two vertebrae, leaving Ali addicted to painkillers and ultimately institutionalized, it's not just her dreams of glory that get torn asunder, but the very fabric that holds her fragile family together. The author, Tracy O’Neill, was adopted from South Korea and raised in New Hampshire. In 2012, she was awarded the NYC Emerging Writers Fellowship by the Center for Fiction. Currently, she teaches at the City College of New York.
