April 2017

Hi <<First Name>>,

Autumn greetings from The Active Gourmet Travel.  Heaven knows where summer has gone!

As I write this, the remnants of Cyclone Debbie are pounding down on us in the north, while in the fair land of Canterbury, a group are beginning to gather their summer clothes for The Active Gourmet’s second tour to Sicily.

In Sicily they will be immersed in a totally different culture, learning about the food and customs of a sunny land that has been occupied since the Bronze Age, an island which is a part of Italy but remains resolutely apart in so many ways.

If Sicily interests you, plan to join us for the next departure starting 30 April 2018.

The first quarter of 2017 has been alarmingly busy preparing customised itineraries for people travelling to places as diverse as Corsica, Cornwall and Scotland. Ireland is deservedly regaining its popularity too.

NEW TOUR for 2017

Hubert, our hippo mascot, has put together an 18 night tour staying in his four favourite places in France, selected over the 22 years with The Active Gourmet Travel.
There is a maximum of four places available for this small group tour during which we will explore the Loire, the Languedoc, and travel out from two bases in the Vaucluse (Northern Provence).  Think markets, famous gardens, cooking by the Canal du Midi and picnics in exquisite places.

Contact us NOW on 021 630 559 or gail@theactivegourmet.com.
Over the years, The Active Gourmet has had many variations on the hat theme but by far the most popular branded item is the carefully designed and hardy Cooks Apron, seen modelled here by David, an Aussie with impeccable taste.

Sad news

RIP Frances Macdonald
One of our Cycling Sybarites stalwarts passed away last month after a long illness. Thanks for being such an enthusiast, Frances, and condolences to husband, Grant.
Lions Visit June/July 2017
The Land of the Long White Cloud is about to experience its 12-yearly invasion by the northern army of Lions supporters. It was very sad to read of the major rip-offs in place in some of our hotels and motels especially for the two tests in Auckland.
Those of you coming to Auckland, whether in red, white and blue or solid black, consider staying on that little off-shore island, Waiheke. Prices haven’t been artificially elevated and the trains and ferries will get you back after the game with plenty of time to spare. Let your friends know there is an alternative to a park bench in the Domain!
Those of you who receive wine through Hubert’s Wine Circle, look out for the mid-year wine offer coming soon

Enjoy the season mists, hoping that none of them stop your plane from taking off!

Salut,
Gail, Hubert and the team

P.S. Proud to report that our tour ‘Lanterne Rouge’ (tail end Charlie) will be right at the opposite end when the foreign foe arrive – Maurice Trapp is the incoming president of NZR. Look out for him on Sky during the Lions Tour – he won’t look like this!
