A message from Keith Makin, Chair of NSCB

This month the spotlight falls on Domestic Violence and Abuse. This is a key priority for the Board and an important area for all staff working with children, young people and adults to be aware of.

The effects of Domestic Abuse on children and young people can last a lifetime and often effect a child's ability to form positive relationships long into adult life. Northamptonshire Police have been doing a great deal of promotional work already around this topic through the 'Domestic Abuse is Control... Turn it Off' campaign and using the #standbyforaction on social media.

On Thursday 6th October, Nene & Corby CCG are holding a Domestic Abuse Conference at Kettering Conference Centre. The conference is fully booked so if you're attending, enjoy the day and be sure to share the learning with your colleagues back in the work place on your return.

The NSCB website has a host of useful information on how we are tackling Domestic Abuse in Northamptonshire including details on how to access training, procedures to follow where you have concerns, the domestic abuse notification scheme to Schools and tools and advice for working with potential victims. Make sure you check out the links below and help stamp out Domestic Abuse in Northamptonshire.

GOOD PRACTICE

What is 'Good' Early Help?

A definition of good early help practice has been agreed by the NSCB. This sets out what good practice in early help assessment, support and intervention should look like and has recommendations across a number of areas including the identification of needs; holistic assessment; outcomes-based intervention; Team Around the Family reviews and management oversight.
Read the full definition on the NSCB website.

Early Help Partners Survey

Last year, NCC ran a survey to understand more about partners understanding of, and confidence in, Early Help. The survey is being repeated this year to understand the progress made. The survey should take 5 minutes to complete and its finding will inform early help work and make sure it focuses on the things you and your colleagues need.
