COVID-19 cases are rising all over the world, including Brookline. While more difficult than ever, it is more important than ever to follow safe COVID-19 protocols.
- All BHS student MUST attend school remotely until at least Thurs. Dec. 10, if they has been outside of Massachusetts (except Vermont) for any portion of Thanksgiving break.
- Upon return home, out-of-state college students must self-quarantine for 14 days.
- If a person has had a negative COVID-19 test given within the last 72 hour, they may return to Hybrid. Find information on test sites here.
The BHS administration has worked hard to make the shifts from hybrid to fully remote learning seamless for BHS students. In turn, BHS families can work hard to adhere to current COVID-19 protocols.
FROM THE BHS HEAD OF SCHOOL
11.22.20
Dear BHS Parents, Guardians, and Caretakers,
This has been a long, quick year. It's a little hard to believe that we just finished first quarter on Friday 11/6, and now we're rolling into Thanksgiving. Below is what I wrote students this evening. Please note a few things:
- I apologized for not sending me COVID-19 communication to students last week when we had a positive case. I should have done this and pledge to do so moving forward.
- Thanksgiving week is a good time to remember to be grateful for one another. In a year like this one, I have a long thank you list. We're having a successful school year thanks to the efforts of so many and thanks to the patience and tenacity of our students. I love BHS.
- We all need to be mindful of safe travel, gathering, and distancing during Thanksgiving. This is generally a time of year when I worry about our current students as they gather with graduates who return from college. While such gatherings are likely fewer within COVID, I emphasize that health and safety requires all of us to play our part. Being careful now will extend our in-person learning time together.
Below is my actual note to kids. Thanks for working with BHS and me to support our students, teachers, and staff.
Sincerely,
Anthony
Dear Brookline High School Students,
I hope this quick note finds you well and enjoying the weekend. We have a normal schedule next week, with the MT cohort coming into BHS for in-person learning on Monday 11/23 and Tuesday 11/24. Wednesday 11/25 will be a remote day. As always, you can find updated schedules on our BHS web-site.
Last week, we had a positive case at the high school, and I did not communicate with students but did send emails to staff, parents, and guardians. It was wrong not to send a similar communication to students, and I apologize for not doing so. Moving forward, I will share such information via Aspen/X2, balancing the need to share important health and safety updates with all stakeholders, including you, our students.
My hope is that you all have a good, short week starting tomorrow. Now is a good time to express gratitude for your teachers, staff, and families for approaching a wild 20-21 school year with much-needed flexibility and optimism.
I am deeply grateful for all of you, who navigate this new territory with grace and respect for others, knowing people have varying comfort levels for in-person experiences. I join BHS teachers, staff, and administrators in appreciating you, our students, and wishing you a restful and rejuvenating Thanksgiving weekend.
Please continue to be mindful of safe gathering and social distancing with family and friends over the holiday weekend. My hope is that we can extend our in-person learning models for as long as possible, and this requires smart, responsible behavior from each and all of us.
Happy Thanksgiving week,
Mr. Meyer
