9th GRADE PARENT MEETING
The Unique Challenges of Freshman Year
The next CO '24 virtual parent meeting Wed. Feb. 3 at 7p.m. Zoom link is here.
The meeting will be a special event facilitated by B-PEN (Brookline Parent Education Network) and featuring the always insightful BHS Peer Leaders. Freshman parents/caregivers will have an opportunity to “meet” one another and explore some of the special challenges facing this year’s freshman students and their families, from screen time issues and balanced limit setting to missed opportunities in a year critical to social/emotional development. A short video created by Peer Leaders will serve as a launchpad for discussion, with the students on hand for follow-up questions. The core of the meeting will be two different break-out room discussions giving parents opportunities to talk together about common concerns and strategies for managing these unique times.

SWS ADMISSIONS PROCESS IS OPEN
SWS Admissions Info Packet
School Within a School, located on the fourth floor of BHS, is an alternative, democratic community for a diverse group of approximately 120 sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Goals for students include taking as much responsibility for their education as possible, sharing decision-making in running SWS, and contributing to building a caring community. For 50 years, SWS has provided students with the opportunity to participate actively as leaders in their own educations and develop meaningful relationships with teachers based on mutual respect. Admission to SWS is based on a lottery, the criteria of which are determined by the SWS Town Meeting. In addition to Town Meeting, SWS students take at least two classes in the program, including English. They take the rest of their classes in the mainstream of BHS. More information about the program, and the admissions process, can be found at swsbrookline.org.
