Dear BHS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers,
For this week’s student and family communications, I focus on an important new weekly communication from an excellent source: our newly re-named and re-branded school newspaper, The Cypress.
The Cypress has started a weekly Cypress newsletter to be sent out every Friday with relevant BHS updates for the entire community. The Cypress team and I would love to have you sign-up to receive timely, relevant, and superb news from our BHS journalists. This effort is being led by senior Cypress-ists Eleanor Bergstein and Nate Parry Luff. All credit is due to the two of them and to the larger Cypress team.
Thank you for your support of The Cypress and your efforts to stay informed and aware. I will circle back when I better understand whether this new weekly communication is an effort to replace me; until then, I trust The Cypress!
Sincerely,
Anthony

TAP CHALLENGE!
It’s time for the annual TAP challenge: reduce unnecessary single-use plastic bottles where tap water is secure, and improve access to TAP water where it is needed.
Sign up for the two week TAP Challenge (Together Against Plastics) and pledge to refrain from purchasing single-use plastic water bottles (weekdays, March 20-31)—and if you are able, divert the money you save to the Brookline-Quezalguaque Sister City project. 100% of your donation improves water infrastructure in Quezalguaque, Nicaragua, Brookline's Sister City. Everyone who signs up will receive a short email blast reminder, researched and written by BHS students, with daily info about global water security, water in Eastern Massachusetts, ocean plastics and more. You can boost your support when you purchase a sleek TAP reusable metal water bottle.
The TAP Challenge is run by students in the Climate and Food Justice Club and Global Leadership class at Brookline High School. Are you up for the challenge? Sign up here for the TAP challenge (donations are not required, but you can help us reach our $5000 goal for Quezalguaque to build water infrastructure). And, follow us on Instagram! Spread the word to friends and family.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED - JUNIOR SEMI-FORMAL
Junior Semi for the Class of '24 will be held Friday, March 24 from 7 to 11pm at 22 Tappan. This is one of few annual events that brings the entire class together socially and we need MANY parent volunteers to make this special for the students, before, during, and after the event. Sign up to volunteer! If you are the parent of a Class of '25 or '26, this is a great way to get a sneak peak at what your child will experience as juniors! Class of '24 parents are encouraged to sign up for slots before and after the event, but not during, because, well, your kid probably doesn't want to party with you hanging around. ;) Email ptoclassreps2024@gmail.com with questions. Thank you for your help!
BHS POETRY SLAM
The BHS Poetry Club, with support from Anna's Taqueria, the Brookline Teen Center, and the BHS PTO, is hosting a Poetry Slam on March 25th, 5-8pm at the Teen Center. Over 75 teen poets from all around Boston are expected to attend - encourage your student to come! Click HERE for more information.

BROOKLINE.news COMING SOON
Launching this spring, Brookline.news will be a free, not-for-profit digital news outlet, with its first weekly e-newsletter scheduled to debut mid-April. Initiated by a group of Brookline residents, with deep journalism, media and communications expertise, Brookline.news plans to fill the gap left when Gannett Media Co. ceased publication of our local print newspaper, the Brookline Tab. In addition to publishing news about Brookline, the group plans to partner with students to be a laboratory for training the next generation of journalists. They also aspire to collaborate with similar nonprofit newsrooms in the region to share best practices and partner on investigative stories that hold regional interest.
