Dear Brookline High School Parents, Guardians, and Caretakers,

Happy Sunday afternoon. We return to Brookline High School tomorrow (Monday 9/20) for our fourth week - and our first full one - of the 2021-22 school year.

9/25 - College Essay Workshop
Our generous PTO continues to sponsor a free College Essay Workshop on Saturday 9/25. It is an amazing opportunity for seniors to receive support and feedback on their college essays and for the senior class to come together and make progress on a stressful element of post-secondary planning. For many years, I taught in the workshop along with other high school English teachers. Maestros extraordinaire Rob Primmer and Peter Sedlak carry the mantle and lead the workshop this year. I now have a senior myself and will urge her to take advantage of this awesome opportunity. (Links to register below)

9/30 Club Fair
We will remind students this week that our annual Club Fair during All Campus X Block will occur on Thursday 9/30. Clubs are a big deal at BHS: myriad options and always an opportunity to create new clubs.  Our annual Club Fair is a spectacle of students excited about their club and eager to welcome new members.

9/30 Back to School Night and early October Tour of BHS
On Friday 9/17, I wrote all BHS families via BlackBoard to share that our Back to School Night (BtSN) event on Thursday 9/30 will be live and virtual via Zoom. The event will feature ten-minute sessions with your student's teachers, some messages from school leaders, and an opportunity to meet our counselors, deans, and student support people.

We are complementing this virtual BtSN with the option to tour our 115 Greenough Street campus in early October. You should see the spaces where our children learn and hang out. Brookline High School is looking pretty beautiful lately - if a bit in-process what with Tappan Gym, Cypress Field, 22 Tappan. Still, the restaurant and science wing and its relationship to the Quadrangle is stupendous. We will recruit some young Warriors to show you around the place; they know best.

These seem like the crucial nuggets for BHS parents and guardians this week. I'll be out and about at as many athletic events as I can be in addition to an Innovation Fund board meeting and a ninth grade PTO meeting.

Take care,

Anthony Meyer
Head of School

As part of the PTO's efforts to reconnect after last year, the Class of 2022 PTO Representatives have organized an outdoor, informal gathering of parents/caregivers, as we kick off our students' senior year. Please join us at Fisher Hill Park on Thursday, September 23 between 5-7 pm. There is no formal program, just a chance to reconnect with one another. Please drop by at any point during that window. We will monitor the weather and communicate day-of should we need to reschedule.

BHS Government positions are now open for BHS Legislature (9th grade), BHS Judiciary (9-12 grade) and BHS Student Council (9-12th grade)! Detailed information and deadlines can be found on our website at

Are you looking for contact information for a parent or caregiver?  Use the Family Directory on the PTO website. This directory is powered by Membership Toolkit. Every year you should update your student information and verify your contact information.  Participation in the Directory does not automatically sign you up to receive class specific emails, special groups, and/or the weekly PTO Blast.  To sign up for class/activity related emails and the PTO Blast, go to our website at, click on BHS-PTO Communications and then Sign Up and fill out the appropriate information.

Auditions/backstage crew open to all! See complete details & requirements at or email for more information.
Audition dates: Sept 22, 23 & 24

RACE REELS - Precious Knowledge

The first Race Reels presentation (virtual) will be on Sept. 23rd at 6pm.  The film this month is Precious Knowledge, in connection with Latinx/Hispanic Heritage month, and we're thrilled to announce that Jose Gonzalez, the teacher featured in the documentary will be joining us (virtually) for a conversation afterwards! Zoom links will be distributed to students through Canvas.

B-PEN's ( Brookline Parent Education Network)

B-PEN helps guide parents through common social, emotional, and developmental challenges affecting today’s teens and pre-teens. Our Parent Advisory Committee helps us identify the current pressing issues affecting Brookline youth and brainstorm ideas for useful information on topics ranging from setting limits and healthy relationships to screen use and alcohol experimentation. This lively volunteer group, composed of a wide range of BHS and middle school parents, meets roughly four times a year to assist in planning parent and community education materials and events. We invite you to join us Sept. 23 via zoom. For more information, contact social worker, 617.713.5155.

Watch this space for updates from Guidance, in the meantime here is the very useful "Whom Do I Call and When" guide.

Tuesday, September 28th 7-8pm on Zoom
Learn how you can support the students and teachers in the Drama, Dance and Music departments as they return to the stage, and meet and connect with other parents in all grades, by attending FoPA’s open monthly meeting.
