COVID-19 cases are rising all over the world, including Brookline. While more difficult than ever, it is more important than ever to follow safe COVID-19 protocols.
- All BHS student MUST attend school remotely until at least Thurs. Dec. 10, if they have been outside of Massachusetts) for any portion of Thanksgiving break.
- Upon return home, out-of-state college students must self-quarantine for 14 days
- If a person has had a negative COVID-19 test given within the last 72 hours, they may return to Hybrid. Find information on test sites here.
- If your student is hybrid and scheduled for an in-person day, but does not go into BHS that day, you must email or call the appropriate secretary to notify the school why your student is not in person. This includes days or classes, when your student goes to school remotely on one of their scheduled in-person days.
The BHS administration has worked hard to make the shifts from hybrid to fully remote learning seamless for BHS students. In turn, BHS families can work hard to adhere to current COVID-19 protocols.
FROM THE BHS HEAD OF SCHOOL
11.29.20
Dear Brookline High School Parents, Guardians, and Caretakers,
I hope this note finds you well after the long weekend. We return to the business of Brookline High School after what should have been a homework-free weekend. These are relatively rare for our students, so I hope they approached their days and hours with intention: exercise, less screen time, taking time to honor their parents and guardians...
When we begin again at BHS tomorrow, we then have three and a half weeks before Winter Break (12/24-1/1). This is an important time and opportunity for momentum, continuity, and focus. We also likely will be navigating anxieties and realities around COVID cases, mitigation, and information-sharing. I will continue to lean on our school health team and lean into balancing privacy needs with community needs. Look for an email from me this week about the district's COVID dashboard, an important tool to support public awareness and access to updated health information.
In the next week or so, we will make and announce a decision about midyear examinations, a structure we have had in place for some time. These would occur the week of 1/19-22. We then begin second semester on Monday 1/25.
For now, I and look forward to seeing the MT cohort tomorrow and will email the young people a little later, reminding them they are wanted at BHS: in-person or remote, with clear eyes, full hearts, and sit upons. (That last item reminds me of the Sesame Street bit - which is one not like the other?)
Do please remember to complete the attestation form the district sent out last Tuesday 11/23. We will not be barring students from attending classes whose families do not complete the forms, but we are rightly asking people to affirm their understanding of certain COVID protocols, policies, and the like. I did it for myself and my daughters in about 5 minutes. You will need your students' LASID numbers, which can be found on Aspen X2. It might also be their lunch pin - seven digits.
Sorry this got so long; enjoy Sunday afternoon and evening.
