Dear BHS Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers,
We hope everyone's school year has begun well, and that the students and parent/guardians are all starting to get into a groove. The PTO had our first monthly meeting, and it feels great to be working together, meeting in person, and digging into the work of supporting families, students, and educators in and around Brookline High School.
We'd like to highlight two important upcoming events, which are both excellent examples of some of the truly impactful things we can do as a PTO because parents like you have donated a little time or some money or (our favorite) both!
1) Teacher Appreciation Breakfast - The PTO sponsors and organizes a breakfast each year to thank teachers on the morning following Back To School Night (BTSN is Oct 6th and the Breakfast is the 7th). 2) Senior Essay Writing Workshop - On Sunday, Oct 2 parent volunteers are needed to help staff this exciting event - below you'll find information on how to sign up your senior to participate as well as how to help out. We particularly encourage parents of freshmen, sophomores, and juniors to volunteer! It's a fun and very rewarding way to engage with the BHS community.
We're very grateful to belong to a school community that can support events such as these and so many more - without your openness to donating time, items, and funds, these events and so many others just wouldn't be possible. Thank you and have a great week!

SENIOR COLLEGE ESSAY WRITING WORKSHOP - OCT. 2ND
Registration for The Senior College Essay Writing Workshop is still LIVE! Registration will close at 12:00 p.m. on September 30th. We will have limited space for walk-ins, but pre-registering is preferred. The workshop will take place on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at BHS from 9:00 am –12:30 pm.
This is a traditional BHS event open to BHS seniors at every stage of their college essay process. Students will have the chance to work with BHS teachers and parent/guardians volunteers to move from ideas, to outlines, editing, and finished essays for their college applications. BHS Librarians have published the Library Hours for this year. Monday 8:00am-4:00pm, Tuesday 8:00am-3:00pm, Wednesday 8:00am-4:00pm, Thursday 8:00am-4:00pm, and Friday 8:00am-3:00pm.

THE SAGAMORE SUBSCRIPTION INFO
Brookline High School's student-run, nonprofit newspaper, The Sagamore, is planning to produce regularly-printed paper issues for the 2022-2023 school year. Subscriptions allow issues of the paper to be widely available to the entire student body, faculty members and parents. Subscriptions of $30 would be greatly appreciated and would ensure that each issue arrives at your doorstep with the latest community news. You can subscribe HERE. Thank you!
RACE REELS - 2022/23 SEASON
Race Reels is BHS’ monthly documentary film series curated to educate and spark conversation around the difficult topics of race and other marginalized communities. B-PEN (Brookline Parent Education Network)- MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES
These days, mental health is a challenging concern, and suicide is an especially tough topic. But September is Suicide Prevention Month, and it offers a good opportunity to open the discussion in your family. PBS’s “ Facing Suicide” offers a good launchpad, and NAMI offers terrific resources. If you have any particular concerns, B-PEN urges you to contact your guidance counselor or BHS social worker Abby Dean ( gabrielle_dean@psbma.org).

FOPA (Friends of Performing Arts) - JOIN US!
We are delighted to welcome you to the first meeting of the Friends of Performing Arts at Brookline High School on Tuesday, October 11 at 7:00pm at BHS (location TBD).
Greet fellow parents and caregivers, hear about this season’s full calendar of performances, and learn about ways that you can help out and be a part of the fun! Future meetings will continue to be on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm.

BROOKLINE LIBRARY SPEAKER EVENT
On October 12, the Trustees of the Public Library of Brookline will host “An Evening with Ben Mezrich: Exploring the Mind of a Literary Rock Star." Cambridge-based Mezrich, a lively and provocative author, scriptwriter, and adventurer, in conversation with the multi-talented Hank Phillippi Ryan, USA Today bestselling writer of acclaimed mystery novels and Emmy-winning investigative reporter for Boston’s 7News. BHS INNOVATION FUND GALA-RAMA
Save the Date for the Fund's annual GALA-RAMA, on Thursday 11/3/22 from 7-10pm at the Cheeky Monkey Brewing Co. in Boston (Fenway). Festivities will include: Open bar, fun food, ping-pong, billiards, shuffleboard, auction, and more. Help the Innovation Fund raise funds to invest in new academic programs at BHS and celebrate with BHS Faculty.

The BHS Innovation Fund invites you to the 9th Grade Parent Wine & Cheese Social. Thursday, September 29, 5:30-7:30pm at the Hemlock Grill/Robert T. Lynch Municipal Golf Course, 1281 West Roxbury Parkway in Chestnut Hill. Meet Head of School Anthony Meyer and faculty members, mingle with Innovation Fund volunteers and fellow parents, and learn about the Fund's critical work and how you can get involved.
