You're looking at my newly updated newsletter format, which is still being worked out. First of all, thanks for signing up for Peter Goodgame's newsletter, which has grown out of my work as editor of www.redmoonrising.com. Some of you have been on the mailing list since 1999. I don't share a lot of personal information on my website, so I thought I might take this opportunity to share about the people that me and my wife Lori are connected with here at home in Kailua on the island of Oahu. Honestly, my research and writing is only a small part of my life as we continue to grow together in Jesus pursuing the Kingdom of God.
A big turning point in our lives was when we both began to experience the presence, power, and love of the Holy Spirit, which began for us in 2007-2008. At about this time we became a part of New Beginning Christian Fellowship, pastored by Ed and Tracy Bean. This remains our home church and we have been very blessed by the Beans!
About the same time we also connected with John and Linda Keough of Healing Rooms Hawaii. John and Linda guided us and helped us grow in our gifts and NBCF was a place where we began to share and release them. John and Linda moved back to Idaho a year ago, but they are here in Hawaii for the next few weeks and we look forward to spending time with them!
Shortly after that, in 2009, we were first impacted by the ministry of Papa Boyd Dennis of My Father's House. Papa Boyd is a missionary to Africa and leads over a dozen churches in Kenya from his base in Kibera, one of Africa's biggest slums. He comes to visit here in Hawaii once or twice a year, and he is also currently on the island, with a conference coming up November 13-16 which we plan to attend.
It was some time in 2010, I believe, when I first met Carolina Jesus, of Shelter of Wisdom. This little woman single-handedly operates a non-profit transitional housing program for men who are either coming off the streets, financially challenged, coming out of jail, dealing with mental or physical health issues, or substance abuse problems. Shortly after meeting her I was compelled to begin leading Bible studies in her homes every Tuesday night. She currently operates five houses with 41 men at maximum capacity. Over a year ago my wife and I sold our house, which brought our monthly bills way down, allowing my wife to quit her corporate job. Since then she has been working as a volunteer with Carolina learning the accounting and taking charge of the bookkeeping for her organization. Over the Summer I also took off three months from work to spend time with the guys and helping Carolina. Working with the Shelter has been a big challenge, and it seems that the needs never end, but it is also incredibly fulfilling, especially when we get to watch men healed and transformed by the Gospel of the Kingdom, in awe of the power and love of God! Yes, we have a long list of amazing stories through our time spent with Carolina and Shelter of Wisdom!
We are also very close to Nick and Faye Nickelberry who moved on from the Healing Rooms to launch God Quest Kingdom Ministries. Nick and Faye have amazing hearts, and they have constantly encouraged and uplifted us. Their house church meeting every third Saturday of the month in Kunia has also been a great blessing, and we always try to attend.
Through Nick and Faye we connected with Paul and Mimi Chan of Heavenly City Christian Church, located in Chinatown in Honolulu. Their goal is to be a church passionately making a Great Commitment to obey the Great Commandment while faithfully pursuing the Great Commission! I was honored to be included on their mission team to China this last September, and I've also been asked to speak at their church this coming Sunday, November 9th. I think I will talk some more about the Kingdom of Heaven, the Pearl of great price that is worth giving up everything in your life to possess!
These are a few of the living stones we find ourselves next to as we work to build the heavenly city of the New Jerusalem.
